Hey Pat, from a pollution perspective how does clean coal compare to natural gas?

I would imagine that regarding the actual burning part, natural gas is way cleaner. But when you factor in what has to be done to extract these fuel sources, is natural gas still considered cleaner?

I ask because based on what I've heard or read, natural gas is the real enemy of coal, not Obama or the EPA. Natural gas here in the US has become readily available due to fracking technology, and its price has dropped considerably as a result. Many coal burning power plants over the last few years have converted to natural gas. The US carbon dioxide output has dropped noticeably as a result of this shift to natural gas. But, naturally there are other factors to consider, other than just air pollution.

strictly burning, they are designed to be almost the same. post-extraction, natural gas is way cleaner. there aren't gnarly solids and byproducts left after burning like there are with coal (slurry, etc).

it's tough evaluating the extraction part. personally, i'd lean towards coal being "cleaner" because it's really 1 extraction point and ecosystems are typically still natural on top of coal mines (unless it's a strip mine, that's a whole different beast).

natural gas is clearing, grading, trenching, piping, fracking, etc. coal you just load into a truck and drive other places.

it really is a situational thing. but i think that barring sloppy work and avoiding sensitive habitats, natural gas is cleaner overall.

Please tell me someone else sees Pegula sitting in the stands behind where Romney is sitting in the town hall debate. I swear that's him. Probably.

A billionaire sitting behind Romney? Sounds pretty unlikely.

a little story about mikes life:

so, my family hires a house keeper. every two weeks, she comes, cleans the house, and thats it. shes a good looking girl, hispanic, real nice, but she listens to headphones and does her job and leave. i announce my presence, to not startle her, and stay out of her way.

tonight, i go to the bar. and i see this girl and she draws my attention. i wrestle up the courage to talk to her and we talk. after about five minutes, she goes, well to be honest, i was afraid to talk to you. red flag. i ask why. and she goes, your parents. i say, my parents? but im not surprised. my parents are teachers and i get this alot. and i go, oh, what about them? and she goes, mike, im your house keeper. they are my boss, i didnt wanna say anything. and immediately, every kind of alarm goes off in my head. and i profusely apologize, and we talk for a few, and shes all dont tell your parents im here drunk, and i ensure her i wont. but im embarrassed i hit on my house cleaner (fuck you, she was hot even cleaning my house) but i didnt recognize her and i totally went for it.

that story fizzled out. but im drunk. so fuck you.

Sounds like the beginning of the plot to a porn or something.

well that's something you have to deal with. i was in a haunted house and a worker grabbed my shoulder and i reacted and spun and grabbed him in the throat (like a punch/grab). i didn't try to do it, i know i was in a haunted house. it's fight or flight.

though you weren't scaring him. but at least you knew what was coming before it did.

Ugh, people keep trying to pass me in the hallways here at work on the wrong side.

Is it just me, or is walking down a hallway like driving? You stay to the right, and when you pass someone coming the other direction, they should be to your left. It's just natural! What is wrong with all these freaking people!!?

My dog passes me on the left, too, but she's a Border Collie, which are from the UK where they drive on the left. So that makes sense, right?

If possible, I think it's always best to pass on the left whether by car, bike, or walking. But walking on a busy sidewalk or at a busy event, I think it's all just improvisation and you take whatever space is available.

Lower the shoulder, keep your head down, and charge.

Selling one of my hockey stick chairs and trading another for some tattoo work. Also, put the finishing touches on the Stanley Cup the other night for a friend in Edmonton and he's paying more for this one than what my brother paid for his. Didn't think my work could generate such a return.

Win.

A super-religious, evangelical Christian girl that I went to high school with just put lyrics of "Freewill" by Rush as her status.

I don't think she understands the song.
