apparently, 99% of the YLOD are caused by the same issue (the other 1% were power problems or HDD problems) which involves the system getting to hot and the processors...i dont want to say "becoming loose" but thats the best way to put it...along with the paste between the processors and heat sink (where the fan is) going bad.

to fix it i had to take the PS3 apart, which actually wasnt that bad. reflow the processors (this was a bit nerve wrecking) by heating the motherboard with a heat gun for a bit the reheating the processors and their components. the processors are still attached to the board-in reflowing you are reliquifying the solder that holding the processor to the motherboard to fix any problems in the connection. after which you apply new thermal compound and reassemble the system.

I have a PS1 and over the weekend I decided I had enough with these fucking triangles that appeared every time I played anything, so me and a friend disected the PS... Twice. after using air in a can and cleaning the thing (nothing seemed to work) my friend goes over and fiddles with the cables and ta-dah, the thing runs clear again. I'm not sure whether to >:( or LOL
