So ya I got the dreaded YLOD on Thrusday. I've had my 80Gb PS3 for about 4 years now and this is the 1st issue i've had. Now when you get the YLOD you can send it back to Sony and for $150 +tax they'll fix it in 4-6 weeks.

OR.. you can do what i did.. i found this youtube video

I followed this guy's guide to the T, and IT FUCKING WORKED!!!
Now the only reason i decided to do this was because my warranty was WAY expired. I got the heat gun at Home Depot for $20 and the thermal goo stuff at Best Buy for $10.. and it took about an hour.. So if you PS3 guys happen to get the YLOD and your warranty is already expired.. I think this is the best way to go.

having encountered the YLOD about 7 times and i have yet to have a 100% permanent fix. ive had it last for anywhere from a couple week to a couple hrs but it has always comes back

i ended up buying a new one. it was getting beyond ridiculous.

in anycase, i hope yours works. otherwise your better off biting the bullet and getting a new one.

i prop mine up on books, with the system only having direct contact on the corners

the overheating issues (with the original 80Gig) is actually a fault with the PS3 itself that Sony wont acknowledge. they didnt give enough space for venting which causes overheating. coupled with lower quality solder (from what ive heard) leads to overheating the number 1 cause of YLOD, motherboard separating from the heat sink.

taking it apart and putting the PS3 back together is actually a lot simpler then i thought it was going to be.

yea i have the old 80 gig ps3 and thats what it was for me too.. and the only thing you really have to worry about when taking the system apart is remembering which screws go where lol
