So what if you don't pay the fee?
You could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty.

But don't worry, prisoners get free health care so it all works out in the end citizen.

In all honesty, Car Insurance is a rip off also, why charge soooooo much for something you may never need, and then if you get hit by an illegal, you're basically fucked because they aren't going to have insurance.

I'm sure he has to make about 3 phone calls a day over to the hill to ask "who the hell put _____ in this bill?".
Because I certainly didn't hear him mention jail time in his speeches about how awesome health care would be.

So because we can't afford insurance we are penalized with a fee that we can't afford to pay and are then imprisoned because of said inability to pay for either insurance or fee but we'll get free healthcare if we are sent to prison?!!

The Bill of One which is being passed around the Senate requires you have health insurance. If you do not, individually you will be fined around $900 a year, $1,900 for a family, and as far as any other bill that has a chance you will see this in those too.

So why?

This is actually extremely complicated. This isn't all the government's doing btw. This actually stems from the government on both sides of the aisle saying to health insurance companies"you can't deny someone just because of a preexisting condition anymore." Which is a good thing right? Most people would like this.

However, the health insurance companies have come back to the table and have told the government if this happens they want everyone to have health insurance. Mainly the "young invincibles" because we're healthy. So you now take in millions of 18-24 year olds who are healthy, cover them, and charge them money to help cover the cost of individuals with preexisting conditions.

That is how we got to this point. Seriously I'm not making this up. Health insurance providers are a major force behind the mandate for everyone to have health insurance because their bottom line will shrink if it doesn't happen.

No...liability insurance definitely needs to be a requirement. If it isn't, there will be a lot of people that won't carry it. Then you'll get hit by someone with no liability insurance, causing substantial damage to your car and possibly yourself, and that person will be unable to pay it...thus, you have to pay it, and if you're not able to pay it, that's bad. Medical expenses are ridiculous nowadays, nobody could afford the medical bills from a serious accident without insurance.

Yeah, if you get hit by an illegal immigrant, that's not going to be fun, but that's a different story.

Health insurance, on the other hand, affects nobody but yourself...therefore it shouldn't be a requirement.

I never said insurance isn't needed, just too exspensive. I wouldn't want to drive without liability either, because shit happens, and without insurance you'd be fucked.

Reduce insurance costs because there is no need to be paying around 100 bucks a month for one person.
