Quote:
MEMPHIS (AP) — A women's softball coach in Memphis said her team was banned from a church league after learning she was gay.
Jana Jacobson told The Commercial Appeal officials at Bellevue Baptist Church told her she had a "deviant" lifestyle and her team would not be allowed to compete.

Jacobson said her team is made up of straight and gay players. They were looking for more games to play when they discovered the Cordova church had a league.

Jacobson said she registered, paid the entry fee and attended an organizational meeting. Later, a church official called her seeking another meeting. At that one, officials began questioning whether she was gay. When she said she was, they told her the team could not play.

Bellevue spokesman Jim Barnwell said the church had no comment on the incident.

Of COURSE the church took the entry fee first before declaring this woman a deviant.

Stay classy religion. Keep on showing us how Jesus' message of tolerance is supposed to be upheld. </sarcasm>

Atheism (or even utter disregard for organized religion regardless of one's belief in a god or not) FTW

So often I really feel like on behalf of my faith of choice I really should apologize. Some people just don't get it. This is sickening.

I may hate on religion like it's my job, but it's good-natured religious folks like you Eileen that keep me from burning down churches like those dudes in Norway in the 90's.

I make a clear distinction between having faith in God and being a dick hole. You're okay. ;)

It's sad really.

For every thousand good, honest, religious people in the world that aren't crackpots, there's a couple jackasses like this that give em all a bad name.

Having a women's softball league and then kicking out a team with gay players??? They're going to end up with five girls playing for the "pepper" championship.

(ducking and running)

Girls in Afghanistan are being poisoned, blown up and having acid thrown on them for having the audacity to attend school.

I feel for people in other countries, but I live here, not there. Yes there are people in the world who have it worse. Sucks to be them and I hope they get help but we're talking about our country and it happens to be infested with corrupt organized religion and dangerous dogma.

Take it up with the Supreme Court. Private organizations are allowed to discriminate.
The gay softball players can join a non-religious league.

You're relentless hostility toward religion Christianity is almost comical.

The only thing I'm really upset about is that they decided to investigate whether or not she was a lesbian until after they took the team's money. There are plenty of leagues for that team to join, yea, but they should sue to get their money back if it was a significant sum.

If they did, then case closed. As much as I hate the hypocrisy of organized religion (which is quite a fucking lot), a gay manager and her team of mixed sexual orientation should have known not to join a church league unless it was one of the denominations that are acceptant of homosexuals.

I wish I could have been the pastor or whoever that asked the woman about it...

"So, uh...do you like women?"

"Um...yes..."

"Like, uh, are you romantic with women?"

"Yes"

"Awesome - I mean uh, that's not good for our league."

"Why not?"

"Because we're christian, and God doesn't like gayness. What's your girlfriend look like?"

"Huh...what?"

"Do you have any pictures? Uh, I mean sorry, here's your money back. Gotta go, take care."
