Yeah. We've elected politicians that just decided to take away your right to assemble.

Let me rephrase that. You can assemble, so long as they approve of it, and its on their terms.

I'm not religious, but for a lack of a better way to say it, god bless Ron Paul.

I mean, are people at Wizards and Caps games when Obama attends going to get put in jail for a year if they boo their team?

This is depressing. We don't have enough power to stop our politicians from passing these kinds of bills. I'm writing to Obama to ask him to veto this right now, but you know he won't.

You'd think these politicians would care about their rights... their children's rights. They're not going to be in office forever.

I'm really, really upset about this.

The article itself said it. This 'law' is illegal. Since it was so unanimous, Obama can't veto it. So, they just passed this illegal law. Now what happens? Can the Supreme Court call BS, or does someone have to actually 'break' this law and then fight it in court?

uh...that only counts for Federal property (Or from locations temporarily deemed sensitive for high level federal employees like the president) from what I can tell.

There are already pretty strict standards in place for most of those places.

Obama CAN veto it, but it probally wont mean much. then again, i hope that when he does veto it, that Congress will wake up and refuse to pass it

It's also open enough that homeland security can declare a place improper.

I'm pretty sure there are about 10 other parts of the PATRIOT Act that already allow them to do that.

Hell, the TSA (DHS) is now stopping trucks on public roads.

This article just reads like "ZOMG the 1st amendment is completely dead!"
No, this is pretty specific...and it relates to Federal property.

Come on people...brush up on your law...lol. The high-lighted portions of this bill are simply federal versions of state and local laws and ordinances that are already in place. Yelling "boo" will result in a felony conviction and year in jail?!?!? Where are all the funny emoticons and "lol"s, cause this is a joke right?

I'm not sure where in federal law this isn't already covered, but restricting certain areas for dignitaries is old stuff...been going on for decades. Perhaps there is not enough lawful recourse to restrict areas around congress without this bill, but why is that such a problem? What if...IF...a large group gathers on the steps of or around the capitol building and prevent members of congress from doing their job (of course I say "job" lightly)? We can't just block off buildings and prevent people from coming or going under the guise of "free speech" and "assembly". It's NEVER been that way either.

Quoting the World Socialist Web Site...really?

There may be some sensationalism in the article, but the fact is that our rights are eroding. A little earmark here, a little Supreme Court ruling there, and before ya know it, things have changed. Washington is set up to circumvent itself. All of the provisions of the campaign fund law in 1986 have been worked around. People need to understand that as soon as a bill becomes law, they start working ways around it immediately. It's almost like there are no laws.

Yeah...

If that wasn't your first clue there was some spin involved, then I don't know what to tell ya.

I know, I know. The clue wasn't enough for me so I had to beat myself about the brain by actually opening it up and reading it.
