We have ourselves a Rick thread so since we'll more than likely be seeing a lot more of Mitt over the coming months I figured we should have a place to talk about him.

Thoughts?

I've got no problem saying he was the guy I voted for in the 2008 primary.

Instead of a successful capitalist and chief executive for president we got a constitutional scholar who left the constitution in the bathroom where W left it.
I have no idea why the GOP is still kicking and screaming when it comes to the guy.
Our most pressing problems are financial.

yeah?

Quote:
"Friend," Obama campaign manager Jim Messina wrote today, "If the general election were held today, President Obama would lose to Mitt Romney -- according to the latest poll from Washington Post-ABC News. Now, many other polls put the President on top, but all point to the same reality: We're looking at a race that will be tighter than you think,"

That's a fundraising email the Obama campaign sent out just today.

That ABC poll currently has Romney over Obama 49% to 47%

And I want to know when in the history of our country the word "rich" became a pejorative.
Is this a race to the bottom now?

I hear you Cross and I agree that we need someone who is experienced with finance. Since he's flip flopped so much I don't feel I really know where he stands on issues so I can't say too much right now on that. The problem I have is with how greasy he seems. My fear is that instead of fixing the huge loop holes and shimming up the tax sytem, I worry that he'll make it easier for his rich buddies to continue to butt bone the American middle class. He is so out of touch that I just don't see him representing the masses.

I just saw your post about being rich while I was typing this. It isn't the fact that he's rich that scares people, it's how he made his money and who's interests he'll represent.

Edit: Spelling is hard when a cold gets your brain stuck on slow

You mean like Obama has been doing for the last 3 years? Hell, Obama is worse than Bush when it comes to preferential treatment of Wall street. The first thing he did as president was to start throwing billions at banks, insurance companies and various other industries deemed too big to fail.

I think there is an overwhelming feeling from the middle class and lower that the "rich" or more specifically those tied to wallstreet are at fault for the current economy. To a lot of those people Mitt looks like the Webster's definition of that.

I have tried to get a grip on Mitt's plan for the economy but he spews so much pander-speak that I have no idea what logical steps he feels would improve things. I'm honestly asking man.

At the same time that asking absurdly rich people to pay their share became "class warfare".

right. class warfare is easy.
educating people is hard.

I can't wait for the class warfare and race card shitstorm we're going to sit through for several months. It will be appalling.

He's got something like a 59 point plan. it's published on his site I'm sure.

What's absurdly rich?
The number.

Does it matter where the money comes from or what kind of taxes are paid on it?

If he didn't, he'd be considered a "job destroyer", which he is anyways, even though he isn't. Even if the guy was against bailing out corporations, he may have had to do it anyways, considering the situation. He has also gave a shitboat of money to irresponsible middle-classers.

From a personal standpoint, I think rewarding people with money for being irresponsible spenders, and not understanding their personal and properties worth is completely un-American. Obama is showing no intent on slowing down on the hand-outs, either. I'm disappointed with him, but still glad we don't have "bomb-Iran" and fucking idiot in there. Romney and Santorum are inpho, clinically insane in their beliefs. I guess I'll have to hope I either get really super rich, or destitute to be happy.

Imagine the dream team ticket of G.W. Bush and Palin. Imagine how many people stupider than them they could get to vote for them. Easy win.

When the money comes as bonuses for dismantling American businesses and jobs, then kinda yes.

Shall I post the list of companies like Dominos and Staples that were turned into thriving job creating machines by Bain?
Or does that not count?

They should absolutely get credit for those, but you can't deny that they also dismantled plenty of companies too.

When you give yourselves bonuses off another company's balance sheets, and those bonuses cause that company to crash and burn, that hardly qualifies you as a 'job creation expert'.

Not all companies deserve to live. Some are worth more destroyed than left intact.
This is a fact whether an investment firm is involved or not.
Business isn't all touchy feely, aww lets make sure everyone has a job type of deal.
It's harsh reality.

You're correct in saying our biggest problems are financial, Ed. That's why I have no idea why you're so supportive of Mitt.

I don't think the guy has even murmured the words, "Balance the budget." Does he even have a plan on paper?
