Obama's campaign was a turd dolled up with gold spray paint. Well, the paint was wet and the turd got wet. That gold paint has since washed off and put the turd on display for the whole nation to see. Now people are starting to realize what a piece of shit we really have in office.

So it seems that, like I suspected, the first doom and gloom stories about this were less bite and more bark. :liar:

What happened isn't a power grab by the awful anti-christ Obama. What happened is that an outdated EO was updated to include and exclude things that are or are not relevant today. ie: tabacco is no longer concidered a war time stockpile priority and we have included the Department of Homeland Security into the mix which didn't exist when the last edition was drafted up (1994). Side note, this was first established in 1939 and has been updated periodically since. also, George W. tinkered with it twice.

But you know, Obama is Hitler.

No one called Obama Hitler and some of the first news sources drawing attention to this EO were from the left, not the right....notable HuffPo
Funny it's hotair trying to calm the storm.

Still, I'm not convinced.
The powers enumerated in the order are indeed fucking scary.

the Obama is Hitler comment is towards the "fucking peice of shit" posts in this thread, not towards the initial article sources.

As far as hotair, those are just two articles out there talking about the realities of this instead of making a mountain out of a mole hill. There are other agencies covering the same news.

This is a restructuring of an existing EO that has been around since my grandfather was a baby. It has been re-written and tweaked by loads of presidents. The "power" that is outlined in it goes to heads of various agencies, not the President:

Quote:
Section 201, taken out of context, could potentially lead someone to assume the order allows for executive control of all U.S. resources. However, it actually delegates power to the secretaries of agriculture; energy; health and human services; transportation; defense; and commerce to "allocate materials, services and facilities as deemed necessary or appropriate to promote the national defense." In other words, those Cabinet officials must prioritize government contracts involving certain resources -- items named include energy sources, medicines and food resources -- that may be necessary to promote the national defense.

The heads of various agencies that all report to the executive....and any disagreements between them are settled by the executive.
That's called giving the power to the president.

The language used is nearly identical (word for word) as the previous EO12919. Nothing in this screams of the power grabbing and crazy out of control government that the initial articles lead you to believe. Also, outlining delegations of authority throughout the executive branch (which was already in the 1994 version) is not "giving the power to the president". It's SOP in government and military.

Outside of removing FEMA from this EO, adding DHS and defining specific resources in more depth, nothing has changed. Standard updating that has happened time and time again. This time though it's Obama...OOOOOOAAAAHH!!!! Add spooky 1940's suspense music for effect.

So, since you're convinced it's much ado about nothing, why was a 50 year old law merely updated now?
And why would the white house bury it on a Friday afternoon after the news cycle was over?

That's not how you treat the innocent and simple updating of an executive order.

The only thing that is odd is doing it on friday. That doesn't equal cloak and dagger though. Also, this law isn't 50 years old either. It was last re-written in 94 and has been amended many times since then. This needed to be revisited because according to what it stated, FEMA was still in charge of things that fall under the DHS.
