All news about Vanek's injury from game 2 should go here.

Was it just me, or was that stick swipe by Boychuk just a little bit malicious looking? I know a hooking penalty was assessed, but hey pretty much just chopped him in the knee.

Other than that, a less than stellar effort by the Sabres in Game 2...

It was a slash to the knee, without a doubt.

It looked like he was hit right between where the pants stop and the knee/shin guard starts.

It's not a knee injury unless his knee hit the board, but even still the gear is plenty strong enough for that impact, plus he went into the board ass first, so it's not an ankle or foot problem and shouldn't be a knee problem.

I'd say his thigh is just charlie horsed too much from a stick slash. He'll be back on Monday.

That's the Bruin's way...cheat because your team trades away all it's goal scorers.

I know the Vanek injury was huge but here's a big problem that needs to be taken care of. The Sabres Power play needs to be a factor in the postseason in order to have any chance of moving on. Let's face it the powerplay has been horrible the last few years and teams that advance in the playoffs get timely goal scoring, great goaltending and excellent special teams. It's an area which Buffalo needs to address and if they can't do it this postseason then they need to pick someone up in the draft or free agency!

Even if the stick hit the knee, the knee has full protection on it with a plastic cup on top, with some space and padding inside.

It looks like this basically: (-|c

The plastic on the outside, a bit of open space, then some padding, then your knee. So the stick didn't hit his knee anyways. They were designed to fall down on the ice without knee injuries, I don't see a stick doing more damage then falling down.

EDIT: Wrong thread

Secondary Edit: Oh wait. It was the right thread, but there was a merger while I was posting. Very sneaky, SATW.

FWIW....Ruff just stated in his post game conference that he expects Vanek to make the trip to Boston, yet he doesn't know what the injury is....

Tyler Myers - Future captain of the Buffalo Sabres, and future Norris Trophy Winner

Manning the machine gun on the Tyler Myers Bandwagon - just in case any teams have an idea of prying him away from us (3 GM's shot already)

Connolly/Roy - 2 goals in the last 47 playoff games

Either a Charlie horse, or something he got when he crashed into the boards.

Right now I'm just going to cling on the fact that Lindy said he "anticipates" Vanek making the trip to Boston. It's not much, but dammit... It's sort of positive.

Spends two days bitching with the rest of the Bruins about Myers shoulder check that got an teensy bit too close to his head, then takes out our leading goal scorer by hacking at his knee. What a saint.

Hit the side, but he was standing up at the end of that video.

Still plastic but much more shallower there. I'm still holding onto the fact it was just a bad sting or a bit of a bruise is all.

Yeah, that's terrible.

They don't even put up with that over at Crusiers in Niagara Falls, and they'll let you spear someone in face normally if you're friends with the ref.

Just a downright scumbag play. No attempt to slash at the stick or the puck, aimed right for the knee. Bush league.

Vanek's knee was bent inwards, that might have done some damage to the ligaments which would probably be the worst case.
