Needs supplementary action by the league. If you can read the name of someone you're about to hit, you need to pull up; no exceptions.

Sometimes I live in a fantasy land where the NHL sets a precedent and sends a message to their players regarding what will and won't be tolerated.

And honestly, I feel hits like that should be an automatic suspension of 4 games + the same amount of time Pommenville is out.... so if Pommers is out for 2 weeks... so is the player that hit him + 4 games.... should be an automatic ... and thats that.... it'll stop those hits...

in a surprising move, one of the Blackhawks play by play guys (eddie olczyk) essentially said that the hit was dirty and that he wouldnt be surprised if Hjallmarsson was suspended because of it.

it was refreshing to hear a member of the fouling team actually say that the hit was dirty.

Good on Olczyk.

That Pommer never left the arena is promising, although that he was automatically diagnosed with a concussion is not.

They did say that...after they saw it in slow mow six times and it was obvious Pommers hadn't touched the puck. Up till then though they were saying "Poominville seen him coming...blah blah blah" and were basically trying to say it wasn't that bad. Just a bit to slow in calling a duck a duck in my opinion.

Edzo was a color guy in Pittsburgh and he always told it like it was. He's a good human. Not the greatest coach in the world...

You know...I saw the replay on slow mo a few times, backed it up with the DVR...and, it really looked like Pomminville looked right at the guy who was skating at him, then looked left and down to get the puck, turning his back slightly towards the oncoming check, who then nailed him in the back. It REALLY looked like pominville saw this dude coming at him, I dont understand why he turned his back like that. Of course, no one wants to be hit like that, so maybe he didnt see the guy, but...check out the replay in super slow motion, you'll see what i'm talking about.

(dont get confused, I still think it's a dirty hit and would like what-his-face to be ball-branded for it.)

Pommers did look back to see if someone was coming, but he didn't turn intentionally to draw the hit.

That still doesn't relieve Hjallmarsson of his responsibility not to hit from behind. If he takes one more stride towards the goal line, then comes over and hits him shoulder to shoulder, he only gets an interference penalty, and Pomminville probably isn't injured.

I tend to agree that he wouldnt turn his back to draw the hit...but, he did look at the guy a second before he was hit, how come he didnt protect himself?

I will be glad when we play the Blackhawks again very soon. If they can get away with taking out Pominville, several of their own will be leaving the ice on gurneys with the greatest discomfort possible. They asked for it, and they will receive it.
