Lindy says he doesn't think Vanek will miss time. Good enough for me for tonight. Let's see how it plays out tomorrow and Thursday.

My guess would be a bruised foot that will suck for a few games, but have him near 100% within a week or two. I've had both a severe ankle and foot contusion and both were a bit awkward for a couple days, but not necessarily limiting. My foot did hurt for about a month (basically kicked a banister as hard as I could) but it wasn't limiting athletically.

I can't speak for Vanek's condition of course, but my guess is that since x-rays came back negative and he is walking/playing on it, that it won't be too limiting.

He played the entire 3rd period and had an amazing bachcheck. It's one of those things that hurts like a bitch and will hurt, but you won't mind playing on it because you won't feel it.

I've taken pucks to the feet and it sucks, but you just shake it off and the hurt will go away, of course they aren't NHL speeds, but a puck to the foot hurts no matter who shoots it.

Remember Pronger's foot injury a few years ago? He was walking around in a boot off the ice after he blocked a shot, but he didn't miss any time or lose a beat on the ice. In his case it was simply a matter of it hurt to flex the foot out of skates. In skates there wasn't enough room to generate the discomfort.
Not saying that's Vanek's situation, just trying to stay positive.

That's how mine felt. It felt like my sock was the only thing holding it together, but once i had a shoe on, I was fine.

Vanek must have brusied his foot because he thought it was the puck.

Paul Hamilton said last night on the radio that he saw vanek limping badly after he left Madison Square Garden.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Thomas Vanek skipped the Sabres' practice today, but there's no way he's going to miss their game against Carolina on Thursday.
"There’s no time to sit out," he said in RBC Center.
The left winger is walking with a limp after taking a clearing attempt by the New York Rangers off his ankle Tuesday night.
"It’s a little bit sore on the ankle, just like I expected. Just took the day off today and get ready for tomorrow," Vanek said. "Like I said, we’ll tape it up and just go."

Just park Vanek in front of the net the entire game, he was the reason two of our goals went in.

Keep him off his hurt foot basically just standing there.

New entry: March 2 2011 - Tom talks about his new role as an assistant captain and the small injury he suffered against the Rangers.

March 2nd 2011
Good times are coming to Buffalo! Since Terry Pegula took over there’s new life in our locker-room and really the whole club. Just look at what Darcy Regier did when he traded for Brad Boyes. Such a move wouldn’t have been possible a year ago. But that’s exactly something that gives everybody in here new power and motivation to go the extra mile.

Though I’m a bit chipped I’m feeling great right now. It’s fun to play with the “A” on the chest, though it doesn’t really change anything about my game. I’m preparing for the games as diligently as ever and I don’t think there’s any change about my game when the puck drops. But the “A” says something about your value for and significance to the team. And that’s a responsibility I’ll gladly take. It’s not so much about talking in the dressing room all the time, but leading on the ice. There’s a saying “Deeds are better than words” and that’s true. Chris Drury was a good example back when he was our captain.

After blocking a shot against the Rangers I had to get off the ice for the remainder of the second period. There was some pain but I’m glad I could return for the third period. It’s not as if the pain was so much that you couldn’t play through it. It really hurts more when I’m out of my skates. Nevertheless, I didn’t practice today, just to give the sore ankle some rest. But I’ll be ready to go against Carolina. There’s just too much at stake in this game to sit it out. I’ll have the ankle taped and that’s it. We have to get the 2 points against the Hurricanes, no matter what.
