That's what scared me the most...Caroline said it best earlier in this thread when she noted that's the kind of seizing someone does when killed.

Dude, I read an article that said that when he was taken to the hospital his brain activity was somewhere between a massive concussion and brain dead. I guess you could say things are getting pretty serious

As someone who used to work in emergency medicine, I can assure you that his life was in fact in danger. You don't go into convulsions like that without being in serious trouble.

Exactly Squanto, I was involved in EMS for 10 years and one thing I've learned: Head injury + seizures = probable serious brain injury. No doubt, a very bad concussion can cause seizures but it's borderline at that point. Comier should NEVER play hockey again because he will never change. He is a danger to everyone on the ice.

Umm what...no. That is so incorrect. Convulsions like that after a blow to a head like that is an imminent sign of death.

convulsions are just misfiring of electric shock from the brain. they can come with just simple concussions as well. they arnt a sign of near death. tam suffered a concussion and broken jaw. of course, when you see someone convulsing, you have to prepare for the worst, but now that the facts are out, we should be careful with what we say.

this is a bad situation that doesnt need to be blurred with "he almost died" when that is not the case.

my point was a. worse incidents have happened, and b. he suffered freaky deaky convulsions as well, and it was just a "simple" concussion.

Post traumatic seizures caused by head injuries are no joke man.

Aside from the risk of immediate death from to normal complications associated with a seizure, victims of PTS can suffer brain damage and other long term neurological issues, not to mention live with increased risk of seizure activity for years afterwords.

Dismissing post-concussive seizures are 'no big deal' is quite short sighted.

fair enough, tom.

but i dont think we should say "he almost died" now that the facts are out, and it was a concussion. my whole point is we shouldnt use a strong statement when its not quite the truth. of course i can see why such precautions were taken, and why its scary. hell, i agree with everyone cormier is getting off easy street.

but i dont think we should add to the legacy of a horrible incident by saying "he almost died" when everything points to just a head injury. you get what im saying?

I get what you're saying. Maybe saying 'he almost died' is a bit sensationalist. He was however at a significant risk of serious injury or death, not matter which way you slice it.
