Enroth continues to play great hockey, stopping 31 of 32 shots helping Portland to a big 7-1 win.

Good to see.

It's nice to know that god forbid anything happens to Ryan, we have the potential for a stellar young goaltender to step up and fill in for us with Patty.

Where was Ennis?

Ennis was, surprisingly, held completely off the score sheet.

Damn, all 7 goals...
so he did play? I was hoping he wasn't playing and that's why I didn't see his name.

Yea, he played all right. One shot and 2 PIMs.

This could be a pleasant problem to have next off season, do we keep Lalime, sign Biron (assuming he's there) or any other backup goalie or do we let Enroth take a whack knowing that unless something ZOMG worthy he'll only get 10-20 starts? Management could fry their brains out.

Enroth continued his hot play, beating Bridgeport last night 2-1. On the season, he's got a stellar 2.45 GA, .915 SV% and 3 SHO. This is even more impressive when you factor in that his first 10 games were a complete disaster.

I believe he has earned the opportunity to be our #2 next season, and if Lalime craps out or gets injured down the stretch I would be very comfortable with him being called up.

No need to rush a goalie. Enroth has another year in Portland I would think. It's never a bad idea to wait with a goalie(ie. Jimmy Howard)

I disagree. Two very strong years in Portland + Lalime's contract up = Promotion. Well earned, and the timing is right. Another year in Portland would be detrimental to his development as a goaltender.

I'm not sure about that. Fine tuning his game and getting lots of playing time in Portland is more beneficial than riding the pine behind Miller, who also played 3 years in the AHL before moving up to the big club.

Miller's final year was the strike year.

Anyway, Enroth has developed into an NHL ready player, and holding him back with AHL level competition, atmosphere and coaching would cause his game to stagnate and slip. It'll be much better for his development to ease into the NHL behind Miller, learning from him everyday on how to dedicate yourself to your craft, and get about 15 games of experience on the NHL level.

Remember, he's going to be 22 in June and has international experience to go with his AHL development. We're not talking about a wide-eyed teenager anymore.

The list of players that didn't develop because they were rushed is a lot longer than the list of players that were ruined by being brought along slowly.

Look at Howard with the Wings this year. His extra time in Grand Rapids didn't hurt a bit.

I think that not playing behind Miller would hurt Enroth more than playing in the AHL.

I'm not so sure about that. It's impossible to quantify the number of players who suffered from too much or too little time in the minors. It's really case by case situation.

The issue from my point of view is if a player is called up prematurely and doesn't perform he can always be sent back down for more seasoning. However, if a player is ready for the NHL but is kept too long in the AHL bad habits can easily develop, and at that point undoing the damage is very, very difficult.

The conservative approach would be to promote a developed AHL player like Enroth next season to begin his NHL apprenticeship. The risk taker might keep him down in the minors and let it ride for one more year, hoping to milk one last bit of juice out of the AHL experience.

No right or wrong, but I would err on the side of caution and bring him up rather than roll the dice and keep him down on the farm.

Miller's final year may have been the strike year, but it doesn't change the results.

Playing a third year in the AHL helped him refine his game to the point that he lead the Sabres to the ECF in his first NHL season.

I just don't see any value to making Enroth ride the pine and lose the feeling of the grind. Halak, had he stayed in the AHL while Price was up, could have been a very solid goaltender. But because he rode the pine behind Price, he didn't see as much game time and had small problems in his game, like his weakness at 5 hole.

but, boy was his ass chapped. he earned a promotion to the league back in 07-08, i felt. last year he hit a wall, and seemed uninspired at times in grand rapids. larsson even took over the reigns for a little while, and it seemed as though howard had missed the boat.

of course, fast forward to now, and hes shockingly the calder favourite for the time being.

I wouldn't call him Calder favorite. But he's certainly one of the top 3 rookies in the NHL right now.

Want to see some really, really sick stats? Here's Enroth's numbers since 11/28/09:
    W/L: 15-6-1
    GAA: 1.68
    SV%: .938
    SHO: 3

I agree with you that Enroth deserves some NHL time next year, I just don't see the need to have him up here if Miller is gonna play 65+ like he has been. I'd rather have Jhonas playing in Portland and getting some more games under his belt, rather than sitting here. I definetly would like to see him up for a some games though, but with Miller signed longterm its not like we have to rush this kid to be the starter anytime soon.
