Read the Darcy Regier article here at Maine Hockey Journal

Quote:
Are there any prospects who you would like to see in Portland?

“The player that we’re in negotiations with now that would be the most likely consideration to join (Portland) would be Luke Adam. I think for someone like him to experience (pro life) whether he is playing or not, but being here and getting a sense of what’s involved.”

Let me be the first to say WAHOOOO!!!

They called up Brennan for the playoffs last season.

Why wouldn't he be eligible for the playoffs?

What's to negotiate? I thought he was "ours", so don't we just say 'Go here' and he goes??

He hasn't signed his ELD (entry-level deal) yet. That's what they'd be negotiating.

He needs to agree to come up is all, and he would need to sign a pro contract also.

my understanding is a player has to be signed prior to the trade deadline in order to be eligible for the post season.. but maybe thats just NHL. i didnt think brennen played last playoffs. could be wrong.

I believe in the AHL the player is allowed to be signed for the playoffs if their Junior teams is eliminated from the playoffs.

In the NHL a player needs to be signed by the deadline I think to even play that year, I know for RFA's it's December 1st or they sit out or something.

As far as I can tell (I can't the AHL rulebook .pdf to load on my computer for some retarded reason), Mike is right that the rule is the same. TJ Brennan did only practice with the Pirates but never saw any time during a playoff game.

With the AHL Rulebook, it has nothing about players contracts and such. I loaded it up but it doesn't say anything about contracts, when they need to be signed, and when players are eligible to play and such.

It would probably be in a different rulebook on the subject.

might be pushed through seeing as they are losing a lot of players to sabres call ups. you may see a college free agent signing as well. it couldn't hurt.

Especially with Portland's top 3 scorers on the big club now.

OK, so I had to resort to checking the hfboards.com Prospects sub-forum, and there are a number of posts that feature official looking language stating that once a junior club has ended its' season, the AHL affiliate of the NHL team who drafted a player may call up that player to the AHL club.

Looks like Adam can play if he signs his deal :)
