I don't think we'll see him ever again, honestly. It's been noted in German hockey pieces that Gogulla doesn't share the same drive for the NHL that many of his countrymen do, and that he's perfectly fine playing in his homeland. It's been touched upon in a couple of North American articles, too.

Well congratulations for seeing this coming.

Has the news been so slow that we're resorting to picking on developments that happened months ago?

Gogulla clearly has the tools to play in the NHL, but he lacks the gumption. No one could have seen coming how much he didn't give a shit (yea, I'm aware of how he came to the AHL in the first place).

Agreed. It's easy to diss Regier but Gogulla is going because he's going for the money. And going home is usually priceless. European leagues are getting much more $$$ invested into them with new arenas being build in Europe, they are starting to take some NHLers away and guys like Gogulla will have a tough time choosing. Sticking it out in the AHL for a few years and hoping for a big pay day down the road or going to Europe and getting a decent payday, close to home, and job security. Tough choice, but whatever business you're working for, i'm guessing 100% of the people on this forum would do what Gogulla did if they were in his shoes.

Well, I think the going home part was the biggest thing. He apparently was super homesick and when the offer came in he quickly gave the big f-u to playing in North America.

Can't really say I blame him... Can't say I love his decision though either.

I'm in the same boat. I was a fan, and I was kinda miffed to see him go, but the call of a lucrative (relatively) career at home is a hard opportunity to pass up.
