Foligno???? DO WE HAVE ANOTHER FOLIGNO????? Son of Mike? Ottawa has one Fligno and it pisses me off... I loved Foligno growing up... not sure why, I was about 10 when he was playing...

He's not now nor will he ever be anything like his dad Mike. Imagine if Mike Foligno's offensive talent and mean streak were split from him into his two kids - Nick got the offensive talent while Marcus (the Sabres prospect) is a goon.

Well it's hard to live up to your dad in a lot of things.

It's the same with family's of kids in the NHL. They may all make it, but normally only one of those kids is going to be anything real special in the NHL or stand above his other siblings.

Alot (not all the time of course) of the time it goes like that for brothers too (Gretzky, Primeau, Karyia...even Miller as of now)

As for fathers/sons I really can only think of Bobby and Brett Hull when the son has equal success.

That's true, Drew Miller is younger than Ryan and won't ever find the success Miller has.

I was also thinking about the Staal brothers, Eric is the best offensively, Jordan is probably the best defensively, and Marc well he plays defense so he'll never be a huge impact it seems like Eric or Jordan are, and people say the fourth and last Staal brother is going to be the best, but he's not on an NHL team yet.

Post subject:  Re: Development Camp Roster

I think you can't compare the 3 Staal brothers already in the league to each other because they all play different roles. Eric is the offensive one, Jordan is the defensive forward, Marc is the shutdown defenseman (all like you've said) so there's no clear comparison point. That same logic applies to Nick and Marcus - they play completely different games, so it's unfair to compare them generically to each other.

But comparing father to son makes sense for guys like the Hulls and Mike and Nick Foligno because they play comparable roles.

Good enough, They made it to the NHL, they are really good at what they have to do and for a family who is about to have 4 kids in the NHL, that is impressive, and two already have a cup ring.

I hear all the talk about Jared being the best of the four and, honestly, the hype is making me think he's gonna make the Canes this year.

That would be awesome to be able to play with your brother.

Keep your eye on him Phil. The kid is a late bloomer. Tons of skill, just needs to pack on some weight.
His dad is the one who scouted Myers all year btw.

Yea, we (buncha bloggers) were talking about that at camp. Matter of fact, I'm the one who mentioned it was his dad who sold Regier on Myers ;)
