I know the Sabres are really counting on this kid to develop into a quality NHL netminder, but so far this season he's really gone into the tank. He gave up 5 goals last night on just 24 shots before getting yanked after 2 periods. On the season, he's sporting a 4.61 GAA and a terrible .855 save percentage.

One has to hope it's merely a sophomore slump.

Another issue is that the team in front of him isn't playing anywhere near the level that they did last year.

Ehhh...still way too young in his career to pass any judgement.

True, but it's still not the kind of start the Sabres were hoping for...especially with Lalime being a shaky backup to begin with.

If this isn't corrected, I'd be willing to bet they draft another goaltender.

The Sabres have been trying to draft roughly 1 goalie per year as they always like to have a few in the pipeline.

Here are their goalie draft picks since taking Enroth in the 2nd round in 2006:

2009 - Miami (Ohio) G Connor Knapp in the 6th Round
2008 - None
2007 - North Dakota G Brad Eidsness in the 5th Round & Bowling Green G Nick Eno in the 7th Round

Knapp and Eno are splitting time this year, but Eidsness is off to a good start with NoDak.

i really hope he pulls through, but ive always had a bad feeling about him since i first saw him play. i just dont think he has the goods, especially the goods to surpass miller....

but, i was wrong about kennedy, so who knows. but as adam said, i wouldnt mind them drafting another goaltender.

I have no faith in Lalime, and am now very concerned about the near-term readiness of Enroth. Unless something changes, I would like to see the Sabres acquire a strong backup goaltender that offers a much smaller dropoff in talent when replacing Miller, and I know by now it's cliche, but that goaltender should be Marty. He's the perfect fit for many obvious reasons, and as soon as Dipietro returns to the Isles lineup they will need to unload a goalie.

Also, it seems from recent interviews Marty has started to come to grips with the fact that at 32 years old with fairly average numbers he's entering into the transition phase of his career from feature goalie to top quality backup. I think the reception he got when he entered the game last week really moved him, and I wouldn't at all be surprised to see him jump at a chance to come back now.

Why bring back a guy who didn't sign here again in the first place?

Marty is not who we need back. DiPi has had injury problems for far too long and they will not unload a goalie when he is healthy, and Marty would not be the goalie they would unload if they are going to.

Face the facts, Marty isn't coming back to Buffalo to play. He left because he deserved to start somewhere else, and he did. He is going to start many more games in New York than here and I'd rather him play than not play.

LaLime is what we should expect from a backup today. We were spoiled when we had both Marty and Miller and now we are expected to be that way. If the team hadn't played so poorly in the first ten minutes that game could have been changed, 12 shots against in the first ten minutes and only one for?

Then limiting them to 15 shots the last 50 minutes.

Because he's much better than what we have now, and has learned the hard way over the summer that he doesn't have any feature goalie options anymore. I'm not saying this merely out of sentiment.

Yes, but he took a job where he should get 30 games.

Until DiPi is healthy is going to be their starter, he knew it, so he took it.

LaLime isn't as terrible a people are trying to make him out to be. When Miller went down, many of the games ended up us losing by one because the team sucked and left him out to dry. Had they played the same way against Detroit against Atlanta we would have won easily.

He's in the SEL. Went to Russia because he didn't want to sit the bench, when went to the SEL in January of this year.

Maybe this will be good for his development in the long run. No one wants to see their prospected #1 goalie in a few years have a horrible start to a season, but maybe it will be a good wake up call for the future. No summers off, no days off.
Hopefully this is a nice kick in the ass that gets him that much more dedicated

It will be interesting to see what the Isles do if DiPi gets healthy enough to place on the roster.

They will then have to decide what to do with Roloson or Biron or they'll have to keep 3 goalies for a while in case DiPi gets hurt again.

Or heck, given the age of Biron and Roloson, one of them could get hurt, too......

I could see the Isles moving a guy at the deadline if DiPi is back and looking OK or if they are way out of the playoffs again.

I would hope that the Sabres would rent Marty depending on what the Isles want for him.

Lalime + Mancari for Biron!

Wouldn't surprise me if he came back next year.

He's on a one year contract with the Isles. Lalime's on the last year of his contract. Biron's making $1.4 million this year. Lalime's making somewhere around $1 million.

I agree that Biron probably realizes that he won't be a starter any more. Unless he has a standout season with the Isles until Dipietro comes back, he's not going to get a place as a starting goaltender in the league. He already had enough trouble landing on a team this offseason.

If he comes to Buffalo, he'll probably get a fair share of starts, as we know that Lindy wants to take the load off Miller a bit. Plus he's a more solid goaltender than Lalime, although I don't think Lalime is that bad.

Plus it's not a secret that he likes this area.
