Favorite guitarist, as your favorite.

No comparison needed, who is your favorite guitarist out there.

so many people play a guitar with a cello bow on guitars. hell even claudio does it, not very well, i might add. it creates a very very cool effect. i dont think people doing it are copying page, more or less he was just the first.

As I said, I understand. What I meant was that discussion(comparison) is pretty much inevitable. I'm just not participating because it's apples and oranges.

Party on Wayne...

I gotta add in Tony Iommi.

Basically metal is where it is today because of his guitar riffs and everyone just copying him and rehashing it.

Invented hard chords, and played decent blues, too.

That selection is going to probably irk some music Nazis, and I'm not the biggest DragonForce fan, but Herman Li has some motherfucking chops.

Dragonforce is meh to me also, I've heard their live shit is so slowed down it's ridiculous to even go watch them since they can't even live up to their records.

I gotta change my top 5 guitarists.

1. Stevie Ray Vaughan
2. Jimi Hendrix
3. Jimmy Page
4. Paul Gilbert
5. Van Halen

Yea, Paul Gilbert is simply amazing and can play anything and everything he wants to.

I said Paul Gilbert before, I think he is a guy who knows how to use his speed in his songs.
Viking Kong is another I really enjoy, and even if it has a bazillion notes in his solo section it's still good.

I still agree with my earlier post about how Herman Li has chops, while in another thread I'm bashing him for having no soul.

Right now, I think Matt Bellamy might be my favorite guitarist.

I agree Herman can play, just has no soul on how he plays.

Jimmy Page is my favorite. And I appreciate the use of the word "favorite" over "best". Jimmy Page really pushed the envelope with guitar technique and effects, and I think he has an amazing ear for timing and producing music. You can listen to Led Zeppelin tunes 100s of times and find something different to appreciate about the guitar work every time. His stuff is heavily blues influenced, but to me his style is like a jack of all trades, and a master of all. His acoustic work is incredible, his solos are mind bending, and his riffs are timeless. Maybe he stole/borrowed most of his notes, maybe his live performances were not spontaneous or exploratory, and maybe he's over hyped due to Zeps success. But it doesn't change my opinion one bit. The bottom line is that he's one of the brightest, most entertaining guitar players I've ever heard.
