Thought I would share this sub-genre with you guys in case you haven't heard of it. It's my favorite genre of metal (besides viking). For the most part, it's not like you're typical metal band because a lot of times they incorporate folk instruments into their songs. Some bands also use traditional singing styles too. Overall I love it so much because it gets me really pumped and wanna just jump up, go out, and get drunk and/or crazy. Here are a couple of my favorite bands:

Korpiklaani out of Finland (My personal favorite)

Finntroll out of Finland (I fucking love this video)

Cruachan out of Ireland

Eluveitie out of Switzerland

Turisas out of Finland

Here is a good list of other folk metal bands if you'd like the check out this awesome genre some more:

Hey man, you should check out this awesome german rock/metal band called In Extremo. They are exactly who I thought of once I watched that first link.

The gnarly thing about Finnish folk metal is, as Korpiklaani describes it, is that it's just old folks music with heavy guitars and growling.

Turisas - To Holmgard And Beyond. Battle Metal got me into the band, but The Varangian Way got me hooked

I could go on and on about viking metal, too. Ensiferum's Victory Songs and the last two albums by Unleashed are EXCELLENT.

Oh yea, and one more thing Turisas has going for them: Netta Skog <3

Hot, Finnish, blonde, hardcore, gorgeous smile, and she rocks out the red and black war paint.

Yeah, I was thinking about Viking metal bands, but I didn't wanna mix the two in this. I wanted this thread to be purely folk.

I know Billy and I love Finntroll for different reasons than you might dig them, Mike, but yes Finntroll is super fun.

And Billy, yea, viking metal deserves its own thread for sure.
