I bought this as a Christmas present to myself on e-bay two days ago:

It's a guitar signed by Nick Cave of The Bad Seeds and Grinderman. He's as close to my hero as they come (yes, more so than Stu Barnes, Ryan Miller, or even Dominik Hasek). It's a fully functional guitar that came at a good price. However, I don't even know what kind of guitar it is (I assume it's a Fender from the body's shape). AND, I'm a bass player. I can strum out most of the major chords, and of course can do barre chords, but that's about it.

Am I a sucker? Would you pay $150 for a guitar signed by your idol?

Very nice.
Looks like a Fender stratocaster.
If it's American made it's definitely worth what you paid.

/although I haven't been into guitars for many years, I've had a few

If it's a strat, even if it's made in Korea or Mexico, I'll leave a load in my boxers.

Well, it arrived. Unfortunately, it's not a Fender. It's a Stedman Pro guitar, which from what I can find is a pretty crappy guitar. Probably a $100 guitar. I played around with it yesterday and though it works, it's only going to serve as a show item. The intonation needs some serious work. The 12th fret (which is one octave up from the open string) is about a quarter step sharp. And it's probably not worth putting any $ into fixing it since it's just a Walmart-type guitar anyway. So my fantasy that it could also serve as a playable guitar has turned out to be a fantasy only. But, it does look nice enough, so I've got a decoration for my music room, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I was about to say if you paid $150 for any variation of a Fender, it has some serious issues with it then. Just the Mexican Strats fetch around $400 or up.

If you're going to get a cheaper style of guitar to just play with, go the route of Epiphone, Squier, or even the cheaper Ibanez's, or the Japanese, Mexican, Korean Fenders.
