I noticed last night the general rawr the Sabres seem to have discovered. Even Butler was getting in on the punching (it was a dumb retaliatory penalty, but if that Hab dropped 'em, it woulda been a different story).

why are people giving Grier a letter? what has he done to deserve it?

anyway, rotating/duel captain is stupid, dumb, retarded, etc. like everyone else has said, it screws with responsibility and makes it hard for the guys to rally around someone. In the Ruff Era there has never been a captain that has lasted longer then 3 years. since Ruff has taken over there have been 17 different players with the C. Hell, in 2000-2001 the Sabres had no captain...how the fuck did that work? The Sabres have the most inconsistent captaincy in the NHL.

Heres who i would give letters too.
C-Rivet- Veteran on the team who can groom the players below into great leaders
A-Roy- For how long hes signed for, he should be groomed to be a leader
A-Vanek- See Roy
A-Pomminville-See Roy/Vanek
A-Gaustad- Already a leader on the team.

I know i have 4 A's given out. The second two would be back up in case someone got hurt or wasnt dressed that day.

I will bounce that question back to you, why are people giving letters to Roy and Vanek? They are not leaders (especially Vanek) and never will be, just because you make the most money like Roy and Vanek does not give you a C/A.

FYI Grier actually had an A on the playoff choking Sharks so why not?

I give Vanek and Roy letters because of the length of their contracts not the price that comes with it. its a similar process that Detroit took with Yzerman, Chicago tried to take with Towes (they rushed it a bit), Montreal and Koivu. They get signed a player to a long term contract and, more or less, trained him to become the captain. Vanek and Roy have the contract lengths, and both appear to have the skills to not burn out of the league.

Vanek is more of a leader by example type guy.

Vocal leaders, who knows who that is since we aren't behind closed doors in the lockerroom.

As I said in the GDT, the call on Rivet was horseshit. The Bruins player was holding onto Rivet's stick like it was the last fucking raft on the Titanic.
