I know that this has been touched on in game day threads, but I thought it deserved one of its own.

What is the Sabres' team identity? What was it supposed to be, this year? What do you think it will be going forward, and what do you wish it would be?

I don't want to be a dirty clutch & grab team like Philly. The Bruins have a bit of an evil edge to them that I don't like much either (running a goalie, questionable hits). Whenever I think of the Capitols I think Ovechkin; same for Penguins & Crosby. Being know for a superstar doesn't sit well with me (not that we have one). I was happy when we were a hard-working bunch of no-names.

I want a hard working team. That's what I want. Somewhere along the lines of the identity that the St. Louis Blues have right now. Physical enough, fast, disciplined, and hard working.

Right now their team identity is just like blue and yellow said shitty. I say embarrassing. But in all honesty in years ahead I want this team to be a hard working team with a couple of really skilled forwards and hard hitting d-man.

How we try a NHL level hockey team as an identity  ????

Seriously, I just want a hard working core of players with maybe one or two "stars" that bring some press to Buffalo.

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.

we all appear to want the same thing "hard working, decently skilled with some grit (when have we not wanted more grit?)."

As it stands, this team has lost their identity, and they have been loosing it slowly since the Brier and Drury shit storm. Back then the team was the "hardworking, skilled, blah blah blah" team that we want them to be and it worked for them. Brier and Drury left a gaping hole in our identity that we have tried to fill with various players and non of it has worked. We've gotten to the point where this team needs to reforge their identity.

And i think the identity of the team starts with the ownership, coach, and captain. Pegula, for as great as he has been for the team, hasnt really done anything to make the team "his." Yes, he built the new locker room, and gave Regier an blank check to sign new players but the "feel" of the team is still the same as when Tommy G was in charge. For Pegula to help with the teams identity crisis he needs to do some type of cleaning house....Which leads to the coach. The coach of the teams needs to develop a style that allows the players he has to flourish but playing to their strengths. Getting a team to play a certain way/act a certain way on the ice would give the team a sense of who they are together. We all know my opinion on Ruff so I'll save it. The captain is to make sure everyone is accountable for what they do on the ice. the team is only as strong as their locker room. I cant see Pommers being that guy to go up to, say Myers, after a game full of turn overs and ask "wtf happened?" and depending on the answer say "get your shit together." of course that would probably be said is a less asshole-y way, but i still dont see Pommers being that guy.
