Ther have been a few players that played better after leaving Buffalo, but there's plenty more that still stunk or left the league after leaving as well. Here's what Ruff does that might stifle some players...he plays everybody in about equal time at both ends. Many coaches give certain players/lines off. zone face-offs or def. zone face-offs, putting them in the situations they are best suited for. Ruff forces everyone to pull equal duty, aside from special teams or last minute situations.

Either some coaches get the best out of their players talents by putting them out in specific situations, but don't expand their games...or some coaches like Ruff expand his players' games but at the expense of possibly getting less out of their best talents.

IMO, Ruff's approach should be limited to young and still developing players. After they reach that "developed" status (subjective for every player I suppose, depending on how much they can/will learn) maybe it's best to just use them in the situations they are best at for the good of the team.

Players doing/did better not under Ruff.
Clark MacArthur
Martin Biron
Taylor Pyatt
Brian Campbell- Highest point totals away from Buffalo.
Brad Boyes- Stats took a nose dive under Ruff.
Dwayne Roloston

Drury was doing just fine before and after Ruff (until he turned to glass). Ruff being his coach didnt make him better.
Vyacheslav Kozlov

So it works both ways. Some players thrive, others do not. You can add Stu Barnes to the list of players who thrived in Buffalo.
