Scratch that...reports are out this morning that the Remparts are shipping him to Sabres training camp. Looks like he'll get a look this year.

http://www.lapresse.ca/le-soleil/sports ... sabres.php

He did pretty well during the world juniors. Thing is, if he actually DOES make the team, we will have, what, 3 young centers? Ennis, Grigorenko, and Hodgson.

I assume they'd move Ennis back over to the wing, if that were the case. There's no way Ennis, Grigorenko, nor Hodgson would be 3rd line centers, and Ennis has plenty of wing experience. At the very least, Ennis makes the most sense to move over to wing, even though he's naturally a center.

This is assuming they keep Grigs down for at least the beginning of this year. I, personally, would let the kid have some time to develop.
So, I'd toss Ennis first line- Pommers, Ennis, Vanman
2-Stafford, Hodge, Leino
3-Foligno,Ott, Gerbe
4-McCormick, Ellis, Kaleta

The defense is a toss up. I would really love to package out some established talent to make some room for the youngsters. Brennan and McNabb could make this squad.

29 goals, 21 assists in 31 games and a pretty nice run in the World Juniors. He also had good numbers the prior season in Quebec. The kid's seasoned more than Shake'n'bake.

You keep the Ennis line together at least for now. Hodgson centers Vanek and you put Grigs on the third line and create 3 true scoring lines. Its only 48 games, goals will be more important in this shortened season. You flip Cody and Grigs from time to time.

Just because he's seasoned in the defensively inept QMJHL doesn't mean he'd be able to handle the NHL right away. While I think Grigs is a highly talented player, I don't want to rush him if the Sabres don't have to.

Another thing, why are we going to put Ennis with Vanek and Pominville? Why break up the Foligno-Ennis-Drewford line?

Personally I'd rather not burn his first entry level season on this shortened one.
I bet he gets his 4 or 5 game look then is sent back down.

That's what I'm thinking. Unless he just completely wows us in his first five games, send him back to the Q and start him up next year a la Tyler Myers.

I honestly don't think he'll get a look. With the season as short as this most teams probably won't want to risk that, because it'll kill some chemistry there already. Or it'll take too long.

If he helps the team make the playoffs, keep him up here. Simple as that. I'd have to believe with the re-signing of Hecht(lol. I'll bet Leino outplays him), he'd help us.

With how Leino started last season, I'd take a healthy Hecht any day of the week. We can assume the money spent on him was/will be low so it's not really a risk.

God damnit, I just want the puck to drop, now!

You're forgetting, Ville came in as Lindy's frankencenter project, and the way he coaches MUST take a while to get used to(I think many never get used to it). While Hecht will be cheaper than Ville, I'd almost assure you he will outplay Hecht(assuming Lindy doesn't play favorites-good luck with that, too). btw, I'm ok with the Hecht signing, but having the cap space, I'd have rather Darcy aggressively pursued someone rather than grabbing Hecht because his players wanted him to do it.

I'd give Leino another chance. He was a decent energy guy, on a line with Ott he would be great, especially since Ott has an offensive side.

Ya I'm coming around to give Leino another shot. I'd like Grigs to develop; unless he out performs the top 2 centers on this team I think he should be back in juniors or w/e. Shouldn't rush talent like this.

Darcy better get something done with this stockpile of defensemen we have otherwise it's a wasted opportunity to make this team better.

Jesus, seeing those lineups is making me think twice about if this is a playoff team. I'd say so, especially if they stay healthy. Hodgson seems to have gotten to where he needed to. Leino-Grigs-Ott looked good. What's that leave us with for energy? Sounds crazy, but sit Hecht, and play Kaleta-McCormick-Gerbe. That line was good with Goose, and I think Cody can fill the slot in a 4th line role np(plus he will sacrifice). Think about it, why would you start a guy you just signed over guys you had already locked up???????????(start the knows system/kills penalties thread here), but anyways, the lineup I suggest carries enough grit to keep teams off balance(esp Philly). Playing Choken disrupts that.

oh ya, liking those D pairings, too. Coach is apparently still sane(so far).

If ya can't tell I'm already getting excited.

Having someone who is starter worthy on your bench or as a healthy scratch can only be a good thing. Alternate Jochen in for those who end up getting tired with this crazy ass season we have coming at us. It will keep bottom six legs fresh and a healthy body if someone were to go down. I imagine subbing Kaleta and Hecht depending on the night.

I am very excited to see if Grigs makes this team. Him centering a 3rd line would be crazy awesome. We could roll 3 solid scoring lines like we did back in the glory years.

Ya, i like Hecht for depth outside the top 12. I was thinking sub him in for Cody Mac for less aggressive games, and also alternate Scott/Cody Mac when their hands/faces get battered, but by no means does any scumbag get a pass on any night for a transgression(ya, that means you, Bostin).

...and ya, Grigs better stay up. He will give us a better chance to win. I'll be keeping a close eye on Mr. Ruff this year, and that would be major blunder number one if he sends him down, and throws Hecht between Leino and Otter. At this point, I think he's done everything right, but it's still early. haha

Ehhh, not much there, but nice move that Hodgson did in the shootout on Miller.
