i'm not being a homer. that was just a tap and richards embellished and dove. about 60% of players would have done what patty did there. a little slap on the back. no follow though or anything. this was not a typical pat hit.

Richards could just as easily have been off balance, and at that point, any nudge is dangerous. Originally, I thought the same thing. But there is no way a player sends himself into the boards with that kind of force intentionally.

Stop being homers. This shit, in any form, no matter the player's name on the back or the logo on the front, is reckless and dangerous. Not only that, but Kaleta's about fucking useless anyways.

I've been hit like that from behind before and didn't fall down. Hell I had a guy when I was closer to the boards crosscheck me in the back and I still had time to get my arms in front of me, and I didn't fall down either. Keep in mind I am 6 foot and 160 pounds. The guy who hit me, was probably 6'3" and close to 200. pounds. Richards' arm still took the brunt of the force, watch the replay again and see his arm hit the boards first.

Kaleta is one of our best penalty killers, you know how many times I've seen the guy lay down and block the shot.

Yeah, it was a bad play by Kaleta. A minor would've done just fine, if Richards didn't act like he was just butt fucked by a T-rex. You don't roll around on the ground crying out in pain then get better in a minute. He acted his way into a penalty, and ultimately a suspension for Kaleta. Girardi got two for his board on Ennis which was just as bad if not worse.

You know what, Richards may have embellished, but hitting a guy blatantly from behind is a huge no-no, whether it's a love tap or a thrashing.

The difference between the Kaleta hit and the Girardi hit: Ennis turned at the last second, Kaleta stared at Richards' back long enough to not push him into the boards. Kaleta should know better by now.

I love how Kaleta gave a passive aggressive "fuck you" to Brad in an interview when asked if he felt bad about his hit stating that Pat was "sorry to put his team down 5 on 3".

so he got the 5 games.

heres what richards had to say

"No need for it," Richards said of the hit after the game. "That's not a hit that was ever in the game, I don't think. That's a little different than (a) headshot. That's just stupidity.

"It's not hockey. I don't know what game he plays, actually. He doesn't play hockey to begin with. It's the same guy all the time."

richards is a douchenozzle. should kaleta have even touched him? no. would probably 50% of players do the same thing? i think so.

Barely. He was looking at the puck the whole time, which was along the boards. He had his back turned to Girardi the whole time, it's boarding no matter how you look at it.

Hitting, PK work, blocking shots, that's all hockey. Flopping around on the ice faking an injury isn't hockey. Richards is a cunt.

I am really dissatisfied with Shanahans performance since taking over. As paranoid as this is to say, dude really seems to have a grudge against the sabres. Multiple suspension worthy hits: Ennis, Gerbe, Miller, Pominville, and only the pominville hit was met with a suspension.

Fuck this guy, I rarely use twitter, but I spent a good 30 minutes the other day telling @NHLShanahan what a joke he is. I hope he read those tweets.

It was a stupid and dirty hit from a dirty player. That said, it doesn't deserve 5 games if similar hits don't even warrant a suspension. This idea of repeat offenders getting worse punishments, though I see a reason for it, is just turning out to be really bad in practice. Chara gets no suspension for the Pacioretti hit (which I said at the time was not premeditated, and still believe, but it was careless and dangerous) because he has "no prior history" and Kaleta 5 games for that Richards hit? That's just plain unfair.

Thing is, if, say, Vanek had done this, I'd be willing to enter into a discussion about Richards diving. The problem with Kaleta is that the precedent is there and he doesn't get the benefit of doubt.

Absolutely true.

But I can tell you from my experience as a teacher, I still don't like the inconsistency. Of course there are students who fuck off all the time, and as a teacher, you're not going to be as forgiving towards those type of students as you will a well-behaved student who makes a mistake. That's natural and human nature. But you still can't have two substantially different punishments for the same offense. Let's say some kid calls another a fucking faggot in class. I can't punish the bad student with five days of detention and give one day to a straight-A-student. If you want to end the behavior, you make the consequences the same.

to me, i don't care. i'm an athlete, shanny's an athlete. anyone who's been in a very competitive contact sport can tell you there wasn't much there and richards diving/catching an edge shouldn't make a punishment worse. if patty had put the body on, i'd be all about giving him 5+ games. i think the fact that it was a phone hearing in itself, with patty's repeat offender status, says enough that shanny didn't think it was that bad, but was forced into a long suspension because of pressure
