I didn't even know that was possible.
So not only did we burn his entry level contract year on 1/2 a season, we burned it on a handful of games.
We suck.

At least when Quebec's season is over, he goes to Rochester and can be recalled. Hopefully the top of the roster looks different if/when that time comes. Given how much ice time he's seen and the pairings he's had in recent times, I guess the writing was on the wall that it would be Grigo being moved. They really dropped the ball with the kid's placement on the roster and who his line mates were.

I'm not upset with the demotion; I'm pissed off with how the kid and his situation have been mishandled since they decided to keep him up.

I fucking said this, even without knowing anything about the kid. Most 18 year-olds don't have what it takes to be a successful NHL center. It was a stupid call not to send him back at the beginning of the season. Now he might consider his first NHL experience a failure, and that could hurt his confidence.

I'm not really getting why anyone cares, from what I could see the kid simply does not have 'it'.

Now Brian Flynn? Where did this guy come from? He's got it.

Because everyone figured that out before his contract kicked in, except Lindy and Darcy.

We don't know if he has *it*. Playing six minutes a night with John Scott and Scoreless Stafford then getting benched isn't exactly enough to correctly get information on the guy.

Going back to juniors is probably best. At least he'll play and not sit on the bench.

I don't think Flynn is getting quality minutes or linemates, but is showing the spark that is so UTTERLY absent in Grigs. If there was something there to see, he'd have shown it.

Flynn is also not an 18 year old kid, he is a 24 year old man who is at best a third line player. You know why our third line is dangerous with Flynn, Porter, and Foligno, because two of the three will never be a first or second line players in their career in the NHL. They need to always hustle and give energy for the other guys to stay on an NHL roster.

Grigorenko on the other hand has the skill and ability to win scoring titles and to be a superstar in the NHL. I'm glad he got sent back down and don't care about burning a year on his contract. If he's smart he knows what it takes to make it in the NHL now and will only strive to make his game better. He's going to be on this team next year for an entire 82 game season. He was kinda rushed this year, but it's the biggest learning experience someone can have. Yes his linemates sucked, but you don't start on the first line of a team with a Cody Hodgson and Tyler Ennis on it.

Really? Flynn has gotten over 12 mins each game except for last game.

Man, I really hope you're right. But he doesn't seem anything close to a scoring title winner ATM.

Not many 18 year olds can get close.

His biggest downfall right now is his skating. He's a powerful skater, but it's his weakness. He seems a bit slow out there. I think a good offseason training regiment on skating will do wonders for his game. Look at Hodgson this year, worked with Gary Roberts and his skating is vastly improved now and he's close to a PPG player if not at it now.

Flynn is getting about 15:00 a night.

So grigs has averaged 9:44/game, Flynn has had 13:50/game

Is anyone actually saying that 4 minutes a game is the difference here? As if, had grigs just had a little extra time, THEN he would have shown something?

(edit) I just looked it up, FLynn has only had 6 games here, Grigs has played 22. So in total time on ice Grigs has had WAAAAY more of it than Flynn. So, ice-time argument...not buyin it.

Ok, being the devils advocate here. What makes you think he is able to win goal scoring titles? What has he done other than is 40 goals he score last season and the 29 this season? Yes, he has had an impressive season and a half in the Quebec league but why does that mean he will do something great in the NHL? How many GREAT players in the lower leagues end up busting???? Look at Vanek, he WAS a 40 goal scorer in the NHL for one season. Now, he's a 20 goal scorer at best.....

We all know that Rolston is very good with developing young talent and he most likely told Darcy to send him back. That he needs more time to develop.

Grig's struggled mightily this season. I reserve judgment on this kid until he can prove that he can handle the NHL.

Vanek has scored 40 goals twice in his career, scored 30 twice in his career and 20 three times. And with 14 goals in 24 games, he is on pace for 47 in a full 82 game season.

You're argument just became invalid.

Grigs playing more games means nothing. If he is playing very little per game it doesn't matter HOW many games you play him.

And by the way, yes, playing 4 or 5 minutes a game DOES indeed make a difference especially if one guy gets played 6-9 minutes quite often and the other guy gets around 13-15

I'm really failing to see how an additional 4 minutes a game is going to be the deciding factor between whether you show something or not. I think 9 minutes on the ice over the course of a game is enough to show SOME spark of talent, or NHL readiness. He really didn't do that. I'm certainly no hockey expert, but I just don't see him performance changing with a few more minutes per game to flounder around.
