Lacy Brassiere has to go. Burke rebuilt the leafs and i dont know why they let him go. When he took over the leafs they were as pathetic as the sabres are now. Wonder why the ducks and leafs let him go. Maybe he is the nhl's equivalent of Polien-very savey and effective but owners don't like him.

he makes good moves i'll give him that but he's pretty over the hill. i'd rather have someone like ron hextall. i think he'd be one hell of a gm. i believe he is assistant in la right now.

I don't understand how anybody could say no to this guy. His track record is pretty outstanding.

He's a GM, not a player.

What an appropriately silly question for April Fool's Day!

Burke is an idiot. The only team he can take credit for improving is the goddamn Boston Bruins.

Wait a minute. He did a good job with the Canucks and Ducks. It took a few years but he finally turned the Leafs around. As far as I can find on the net his drawbacks included: Swore at board meetings, traded too much for Kessel, takes inappropriate vacaions, and the new Leaf management just doesn't like him. The fact that he improved the Leafs when others failed makes me think the Sabres could use him.

So if my choices are Burke or Hextall...
Hiya Burkie!
I have no desire to be turned into Philly West. Hextall was a player I had no respect for. I could never get behind him as Buffalo GM.

So we're really saying no to the guy who:

In Vancouver, swung a trade to get the 2nd and 3rd overall picks to grab both Sedin twins, also drafted Ryan Kesler and Kevin Bieksa. He also brought in Alex Mogilny, who was still pretty decent at that point of his career. He took over Vancouver and had them in the playoffs within two years of his hiring. They won the division in 2003-04. For some reason, the Canucks decided not to renew his contract.

In Anaheim, he drafts Bobby Ryan and swings the trade for Chris Pronger that gives them the Stanley Cup, then proceeds to trade an aging Pronger to the Flyers for Joffrey Lupul, Luca Sbisa, 2 first-round picks and a conditional third round pick. After setting the Ducks up nicely for the future after that, he went off to Toronto.

People put Burke's career down because of the Kessel trade, but he also brought Kessel Joffrey Lupul, who's turned into quite the player. He drafted Nazem Kadri, who looks like he's going to be a star. He somehow successfully traded away Tomas Kaberle after years of him being on the trade market forever, which he somehow got a first round draft pick for. He somehow got the Ducks to take back Francois Beauchemin. Of course, he blundered by signing Mike Komisarek and Tim Connolly, but the Toronto organization literally had nothing before Burke got there. The Marlies were a train-wreck, as were the Leafs. The Marlies are now a perennial AHL Calder Cup contender, and the Leafs are on the verge of their first playoff berth because of the team Burke built.

Seriously. How are people turning their nose up to this guy?

Hey! Nobody asked you to get logical & used facts, buddy! We use our hearts & emotions here, not our minds...
Seriously, I know nothing about Burke other than he got fired from Toronto. Thanks for the education. :)

Yeah. Burke's been around forever, and he has a Cup to show for it, and plenty of team's good rosters to be responsible for.

I'll say the Ducks wasn't really all him, but he definitely made the move that put them over the top.

Whoever suggested Hextall should be arrested for treason.

My question is why does he move to so many organizations in a relatively short period of time? I think I might lean towards going with a younger guy like Jason Botterill or someone who's up and coming and not kicked the can a bunch of times already.

He was in Vancouver for six years. He couldn't come to terms with a contract extension with Vancouver, so he moved to the Ducks, where won a Stanley Cup. When rumors floated around that he was taking the Leafs job, he asked for his release from Anaheim because that had Bob Murray as the up-and-coming GM. He was hired by Toronto shortly after.

Pretty much, all of Burke's moves, except Vancouver, were his own doing until he was inexplicably fired by Toronto for no good reason other than he refused to go and get Roberto Luongo.

When you fail to get anywhere near the playoffs in your first 4 years, there’s nothing inexplicable about it. The Kessel debacle alone should have clued in the Leafs that Burke is a loser. Then there’s the Jeff Finger signing, and the complete mis-handling of the Ron Wilson situation. I have absolutely no idea what you see in this guy.

Considering the team he built with the coach he hired is now on the verge of making the playoffs, I'm thinking Toronto gave up a little too soon on him.

To go from where the Leafs were at to where they are right now, I have absolutely no idea what you don't see in him.

The Leafs would be in tough shape without the sudden surge of offense from Kadri. Which you could credit to Burke, but considering he didn't look very impressive in past years statistically it's a bit of a surprise to me.
