He's still eligible to go to Rochester for the playoffs if they choose to do so. But lets be honest here, they need to evaluate him for this summer and next year. Find his weaknesses, and his conditioning shortcomings and work on them. This is no more than a simple evaluation of his talents, not a make or break call up for him.

They can do that in Rochester. Still pro-level hockey, and he gets meaningful pro-hockey experience rather than just playing out the string in Buffalo.

Edit: Case in point: HE'S NOT EVEN FUCKING PLAYING TONIGHT. WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT FUCKING DO FOR HIM? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOTHING.

Agree to disagree I suppose.

He's not playing tonight because the Sabres have won 2 in a row with the same line up, they're not going to shuffle that unless someone gets hurt or they lose. Getting reps at the NHL level is way better than tearing up the AHL which he would do. Hell Mancari, Varone, and Rankin are having great AHL seasons, what would Grigorenko do down there? He's far more talented than all 3 put together. Him being in the AHL would have been like keeping Flynn, and Foligno down there all year long. Does nothing for them to play against talent they will destroy on any given night. Except perhaps boost ego.

Will he destroy that talent on any given night? Pro hockey is an adjustment, even at the AHL level. Zemgus Girgensons has had a rough first season with Rochester. He's shown promise, but you can tell it's an adjustment.

As for "keeping the same line-up", that went out the window when the Sabres decided to go with Miller instead of Enroth tonight.

Why not give him playing time. The Sabres have a chance at the playoffs like a snowball has any chance in hell. Let him get his ass handed to him some more to make sure he stays grounded.

I know he's just a kid and needs time to develop. He'll be a great second line forward but a hero for the Sabres.... Just don't see it. Hope he makes me eat crow in the next two seasons.

I wouldn't of played him against the Bruins either.

Well since we're out of any playoff contention, play him.

They could use skill big time. The Marlies had 21 more shots than the Amerks last night.

Aren't the Marlies also the best AHL team right now?

And at least he's practicing with NHL pros though. I know he's not playing, but it's better than nothing. But I do wish he was on the Amerks right now getting that experience also.

It still pisses me off that they're scratching him. You can have him play, full time, in two leagues. Two options. But they choose option three which is "fuck you".

Marlies are the best team in the AHL many years :p

I think people are getting butthurt over the scratches. He's fucking 18 years old. Missing a couple NHL games at the end of a year where he got a taste of the big show AND kicked the shit out of the Q isn't a big deal.

I'm sure the Sabres are not thinking about it but, according to the NBC Sports article below, he would be eliminate from Calder contention next season if he plays all three games.

It's also false.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=24931

Quote:
To be eligible for the award, a player cannot have played more than 25 games in any single preceding season nor in six or more games in each of any two preceding seasons in any major professional league.

If he plays in the last 3, that puts him AT 25, meaning he didn't play MORE than 25, and still eligible next year. (Could also have been the reason for the scratches people are crying about... :P )

You'd figure Calder contention and contract years would jive together, eh?
