Gerbe waived

Meh

I know he's a fan favorite though.

More importantly, he's on $100 waives. He'll be bought out.

It looks like this will just be a normal buy-out, not compliance, so the Sabres will still have 2.

I wonder why. Making room in the line up for rookies and such?

no one is expecting a compliance buyout from the Sabres though are they?

No. Regier did say that he wouldn't be using a compliance buyout. Never said a regular buyout.

Well is seems we can't believe what Darcy has said. According to Bill Hoppe, as recently as yesterday he said he had no plans for a buyout of any type.

Quote:
When asked if Gerbe had any warning, Neumann replied, “Absolutely none.” The Sabres still hadn’t contacted Neumann as of early this afternoon. Sabres general manager Darcy Regier said Tuesday he had no plans for buyouts.

Seems like a pretty small loss for the Sabres, literally and figuratively. I did like his effort, but he was never the same after getting crushed from behind into the boards.

As much as I liked his heart on the team, he is easily replaceable. Hopefully for a better player that is bigger.

I wonder if EA Sports and the NHL games will continue to make Gerbe an elite level player, Well elite level potential that he always reaches and ends up being close to a 90 rated player.

NHL.com is saying this could possibly be freeing up the roster spot to sign Briere.

Can't have Ennis, Gerbe, AND Briere. That would be the shortest line ever lol. But I'm excited for the possibility of Briere coming here. Putting him on a line with Ennis, or him potentially freeing up a linemate for Ennis, would be great.

Let's hope that's all it is.
Using a compliance buyout for Gerbe's tiny salary when we've got Stafford and Leino sitting around would be insanity

Can someone please exlpain to me why they would buy out Gerbe? Why don't they trade him or send him to Rochester (like Toronto did with Connolly). Buy out seems weird.

Off topic: Do they have to use the compliance buy-outs this season? If they can use it next season maybe zhey'll use it for Stafford and Leino. If not I don't understand why Stafford and Leino aren't bought out yet.

I have to assume they shopped him around and there weren't any takers.
I guess his roster spot was worth more than his salary.
