WTF is taking the organization so long to sign him? Is Darcy waiting to see what astronomical number another team offers? Force them to way over pay him like they did for Vanek? Could it be Hodgson who is delaying the process? Not happy about the possibility of a long rebuild....

I hope it is to lock him in long term. If we don't resign him we are really setting back a rebuild. This kid is a proven commodity and can only get better IMO. There aren't many proven persons on this roster. Not that we should overpay but we need this guy back.

Ennis wasn't signed until very late last year. I'll file this under "non-issue."

Ennis was with the organization for a while, though, and wasn't traded from a place he liked. Hogdson, idk, he might be demanding a lot of money considering a player like Clarkson got 5.5 mill.

If that's the case, Hodgson should look around a look at all the small bridge contracts handed out over the summer. He needs to prove he can be productive beyond a 48-game season.

I bet Leafs fans are saying the same about Kadri.

We got some time still.

And I doubt a team is gonna sign him, seeing how he hasn't been offered a contract yet from anyone else.

Yeah, but with the Leafs cap space, and Kadri's production last year, he still deserves somewhere between $2-3 million for 1-2 years.

First, does anyone know if Darcy has tendered a qualifying offer yet? Also, what are the rules for RFA's?

Yes. QAs were due sometime before the July 5th unrestricted free agency period.

Rules for RFAs? Basically, the rights of an RFA belong with the team who last used his services. Teams get the right to match any contract offers thrown at their RFAs. Depending on the compensation the player is given, teams who don't match could get draft picks back for other teams signing the players they have the rights to, like Vanek 7 years ago. When the Oilers tendered the offer sheet, the Sabres had the option to match the deal or receive 4 first round draft picks as compensation. The draft picks must belong to the team and can't involve picks they traded for.

So what if a team offers Hodgson a ridiculous deal? Would you take it? That would be a tough decision.

No, but no one's going to do that. I can flat out guarantee that. Hodgson isn't what teams are looking for in a center they'd throw huge money at.

I agree, I don't think anyone is willing to deal with Hodgson. I honestly don't think he's proven himself to other teams yet. I think he's holding out hoping another team would tender a higher offer. Do know what his qualifying offer was??? I also read, on WGR550 http://www.wgr550.com/pages/16998240.php?contentType=4&contentId=13553959, that Hodgson has one of the sleaziest agents in the league.

Sounds like he's the Eugene Parker of the NHL.

Qualifying offers are three things.

If you made 660K or less you get 110%
If you made up to a million you get 105%
And if you made over a million you get 100%.

His previous cap hit was 1.666 Million. And his base salary was 816K before bonuses.

So IF I'm correct in saying this, his QO would have been 105% of 816K. Which is well below what he made last year, and there is no way he would sign it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, he signs for around the 2.5-3 mark, which he deserves, and probably for two years. Then when he proves himself more he can get his big payday of over 5 million. Which I also believe he will earn, probably the most improved player from last year from when we acquired him. Not only in points but his skating ability and overall offensive ability.

Now if only we could get him to be a top two-way center.

Not even if you only count the lockout year as half a year.

That is true too. With the amount of games he's played, it's like just under 2 full seasons.
