Last season, the Sabres were 28th in Corsi %, and 30th in Fenwick % with the score close (tied or within 1 goal, up or down).

This is a huge reason why the Sabres aren't winning games. They're getting completely outshot every single game, and if it weren't for the supreme goaltending they're getting from Ryan Miller, they'd be losing by a lot more than what they are on a nightly basis.

Some will say it's the quality of the shots that matter, not the quantity. While that's true, if the quantity of shots you take is less than the other team, the likelihood of your team having more quality shots than the other team is pretty high. We've seen how the Sabres have pretty much been outplayed game-in and game-out this season. They had a glimmer of hope against a tired Chicago team who had played the night before and went hard at the Sabres for 2 periods before the Sabres took control in the 3rd.

Think of these stats as you want, but 4 of the last 6 Stanley Cup Winners have been in the top 5 of these stats. There are probably a lot more, but these stats weren't kept until the 2007-08 season.

I would like to point out that these stats are NOT the end-all be-all and that yes, you have to watch a team play. We've watched this team play, and it's not good. The stats back it up so far.

And this is news because we all haven't seen them play?

We all know how bad this team is and how bad we will be. The quicker you accept the fact this team is a bottom 5 team this year the quicker you won't be disappointed by them.

Well I think the whole "Sabres blow ass" thing has already been solidified in the past, lol.

I know we can see how bad this team is but it's amazing how the stats mirror what we all see.

In my opinion, Darcy has made a fatal mistake with the current squad. He has stuffed this team with players who have less that four years experience in the league. Other than experience, what rookies need is veterans to learn from and look up too. I count, maybe two veterans the rookies can learn from on this team. THIS will cause the Sabres to Continue to fail year in and year out. Just because all these rookies have talent, doesn't mean they'll learn how to use it correctly.

As for Rolston teaching them.... He can't teach them how to be comfortable playing in the league, fuck, he's never played a second in the NHL. He's only played three years in college. He reminds me of the saying, those you can do, those you can't teach.....

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.

Dead last in rankings=dead last in most any statistical category, goals allowed aside.

Barry Trotz, Bob Hartley, John Tortorella, Don Cherry, Jacques Martin, Mike Babcock, Ken Hitchcock, Herb Brooks, Scotty Bowman.

All of these coaches I listed here did not play a single game in the NHL, except Don Cherry's one NHL playoff game he played in.

And the greatest coach of all time never played a game in the NHL in Scotty Bowman.

Most of the time, great hockey players do not make great coaches anyways. Gretzky was not a great coach because you can't teach what he possessed.

If you're not even going to give a guy one full year to see what he can do with this squad, then no one will suit you for this team in the rebuilding process. You rebuild and have a coach for at least a few years to see improvement.

I want this organization to bring in someone successful. Someone who's won it all AT ANY POSITION IN THE NHL (don't say Ted Black - he's business). Nobody in this organization knows what it takes or means to win a Stanley Cup. They just think they do.

My impression of Drury is that he's not a very good communicator, so coaching would be a bad fit for him.

What will come later? And I'm not sure what point you're trying to make asking about Drury.

Again, not reading my whole post. My point is that the Sabres do not have a decent pool of GOOD veteran players that the young guys can look up too, learn from, sit down and have 1 on 1 chat with about what they're doing wrong. Rolston cannot do it because he's never played in the league. I'm not saying that he can't coach in the NHL when he's never played. I guess I shouldn't have put that last line in there.

I did read your entire post, I'm not allowed to respond to one specific part of it?

The point I was making is that you do not need to have played in the NHL to coach and be successful. Almost every guy I listed has won a Stanley Cup coaching teams. Rolston is a coach, he doesn't need to show these guys how to play, he only needs to help refine them. They have been playing hockey their entire lives. And I'm sure Rolston can play the game at a decent enough level, he may not have made the NHL, but he did play in the NCAA.

And we have enough veteran players on our team. Ehrhoff, Myers, Vanek, Stafford, Ott, Weber, Ennis, Leino, should I go on? How is it a team with three rookie players on it and the rest veterans of at least a year or more doesn't have enough veterans? You can learn from any player on the team, whether we think they suck or not. Just because Tallinder is old and slow now, doesn't mean Myers can't learn more from him.

A true veteran who can provide leadership is not defined by a guy no longer being a rookie. We're talking about guys that have been around the block many times and have things they can share with the younger guys. In your list, I'll give you Ehrhoff, Vanek, Ott and Hank. But you consider Myers a veteran? And a veteran you want teaching younger players? Dude your bromance for Myers is completely robbing you of your reason. Same with Weber, Stafford and Leino. The only thing they can teach rookies is to not emulate them.

I think you might be misunderstanding me. I'm not saying hire someone who's won a cup as a player to be a coach. I mean get a player on the roster who's won one, or bring a coach in who's won one as a coach.

This.

Ron Ron is the bridge coach to get them through the rebuild process. He's not the guy to take them to the next level nor should anyone expect that.

Well, it might not be a cup ring but I coached a runt team to a championship a few years back. Surely that must stand for something, right? :P
