Courtesy of the Raleigh News & Observer:

Rutherford: no major decision on Brind'Amour

"Canes general manager Jim Rutherford said today that the decision to make Rod Brind'Amour a healthy scratch would be made on a game-to-game basis and that no far-reaching decisions — such as Brind'Amour giving up the captaincy or possibly retiring -- had been discussed.

Brind'Amour was a healthy scratch Monday for the Pittsburgh Penguins game, a first for the team captain since coming to Carolina in January 2000. The Canes won 3-2, and Brind'Amour may be a healthy extra again Wednesday when the Canes face the New Jersey Devils."

...Reading between the lines: The Canes are facing another losing season, Brind'Amour's facing the heat (a la Patrick Marleau) as the team captain - Furthermore, the prevailing thought is that he's getting older and they have to consider mounting a rebuild; pronto...

After this season, he has a year at $3 mil left on his contract.

I would want him in Buffalo.

And if you have to ask why....well, whatever - Because he has a cute bum. Is that good enough?

The Bad:
He's gone downhill since his injury, he should just retire, he got his cup, he's been in the league for almost 20 years, and is a liability now.

The Good:
He is still in shape, one of the best, can win faceoffs, and is a veteran presence also.

I say call it Quits Rod The Bod. You've had one helluva career.

He'd be a solid pick-up, despite the fact that he's hated for knocking the Sabres out in '05/'06. If a good package could be put together to get him, I wouldn't mind it at all.

I'm surprised no one has made a commitment to punching Brind'Amour's nose until it doesn't look like argument against intelligent design.

Wouldn't mind him here. At this point in his career the allure of playing for something would raise the level of his play. Problem is it would require freeing up some salary cap space. The face off ability is huge; especially as the season wears on.............

As for his face; so what. We have some players who are less than beautiful on this team already. The last time I called out some of the mugs, I heard a lot of "whoo - he's cute, you're crazy, - you're jealous, - I'd do him" comments. Then the women on the board chimed in......... :hand:

Howie, I think we were being sarcastic about his face. But yes, we could definitely use him and what he offers. But, would what he no longer offers detract when we factor in what we might be getting rid of? That's always the question, yea?

I think they were deliberate digs at us ugly people, and it needs to stop.

I say stay away from any of the Canes players, none of them are worth even looking at, unless Staal is traded but that won't happen ever.

Hecht for Brind'Amour...I would amour that trade. We need his face off skills desperately.
