Lot's of rumors surrounding these guys. Buffalo may not be on Savard's "list", but of these available players, I would put him at the top of the list. He would be the bonafide center that we need on a top pairing with TV and could come in a change the locker room instantly. From all that I've seen he is great on and off the ice. I would offer Stafford and a 1st to get him on the Sabres.

Not big on Kaberle, basically the asking price is too high because someone over paid for Kessel and thinks he can do the same for Kaberle.
Kovalchuk is going to be the next player signing for too much and never being able to trade (see Lacavilier and Dipietro)
Souray...I'm all for getting him...if it will be for 1/2 price.

A 4 million dollar cap hit for Savard, I'd do it instantly.

Yeah, he's totally worth it with that kinda cap hit but we would need to either trade connolly or move him to wing on the first line with Roy and Savard if Stafford is involved. And honestly, the more I think about it, I wouldn't mind seeing TC playing wing alongside Savard and Vanek....

I would prefer to snag Wheeler from the B's. A guy with that much size and skill would def help out our first line

Cuz Blake Wheeler is headed to arbitration and made $2.8M last season whereas Drew Stafford is still under contract for one more year and only costs $1.9M

True, but our Stafford isn't in love with Vanek. I really think that playing on a line with him and Roy would light a fire under his ass...

True, and but do we really wanna see him flake out and earn like twice what Stafford is?

If we swap out Stafford for Wheeler, it's only another million or so onto the cap. If he only signs for 2 years or so I say go for it...

Hmm, true. Ehhhh I guess it's a shot worth taking.

I'd still rather sign Guerin instead. Until he signs somewhere else or Darcy gets someone better, my lot is thrown in with Bill Guerin lol

Guerin would be sweet, but I'm not sure if he'd sign with a team that's not a top contender for the Cup (although he did play with the Islanders, so what the hell do I know...)

So, for UFA's I'd love Guerin. Even Petr Sykora would be alright. I guess Stempniak is an option as well. Hopefully he'd take a hefty pay cut, though I doubt he will...

Wheeler is more expensive and he's had offensive production that is very close to Stafford:

Last two years:

Wheeler - 163gp 39g 83pts 99 PIMs
Stafford - 150gp 34g 79pts 64 PIMs

Wheeler's taller (6'5" to 6'1")

Stafford's "listed weight" is heavier (216 to 205)

Is Wheeler really worth more money than Stafford and giving up something in trade to acquire him?

I'd love to have Bill Guerin on this team. He can show Stafford what routes to take.

Drew isn't a terrible player... he just needs to learn his positioning. He seems lost out there, despite having the raw skills and size to be a good NHL forward.
