Toronto was willing to send Alexei Ponikarovski to Buffalo for MacArthur before the Sabres took third- and fourth-round picks from Atlanta. Buffalo ended up with prospects Jerome Gauthier-Leduc and Steven Shipley. Atlanta walked away after MacArthur was awarded $2.4 million in arbitration.

Would you have done it?

Not sure. Based on what I've heard about Ponikarovski's work ethic, it almost seems like it would have been a lateral move, given MacArthur's tendency to vanish.

That's pretty much what I was getting at.

F-NO!

All things considered that was a GREAT trade for the Sabres.

Ponikarovsky would have been Ales Kotalik the Second.

I like the trade that we made. Both JGL and Shippley look to be pretty decent prospects, and I never liked Ponikarovsky

Getting rid of General Betrayus was necessary, but not for Ponikarovsky.

If we'd done it, I would have liked it at the time. After watching Poni, I would have hated it.

I would have done it. Poni would have put up better numbers with the Sabres IMHO. We could have then flipped him for a 2nd and 4th.

But not Fucking "Darcy No Nuts Regier". Oh no, a 3rd and 4th rounder will do for him.
People like prospects who show promise while they are......well......PROSPECTS.

Its a roll of the dice, and a 2nd rounder is a better roll then a 3rd IMHO.

I doubt we would have got anything in return for Poni, we would have proceeded to keep him for the year, and he would have walked at the end of the year for nothing.

And a second rounder isn't always better then a 3rd, it's the same as those 7th rounders aren't always worse then a 1st rounder either.

I think the lower number is better actually, but I understand the point you're making. A trade for a 1st will always be a better than a trade for a 7th. Pretty sure anyways
