With all the Rivet trade talk, I thought I'd throw this out there;

JP Dumont;

Image

-8 points in 25 games (0 in last 9 GP). Relegated to the 4th line. Was a healthy scratch not too long ago.

-Still, only 32 years old so he has some playing time still in him. Could a change of scenery turn him back around?

-4 million this year, and 4 million next year.

would you take him back? If so, what's going back to Nashiville?

I'd still take him back in a heartbeat. I know the Preds' have offensive issues, but I wonder if they'd take an expiring Rivet contract + a low-end draft pick for Dumont.

A little OT, but

Let's say Neidermayer, Connolly, and Rivet don't get re-signed (we can all but guarantee that). That frees up over 9 million dollars plus the 2.7 we already have (in cap money)Monty and McCormick need to be re-signed, and Sekera/Stafford/Weber/Gerbe/Butler all need new contracts.

Assuming we retain all of the above, how much of that est. 11.7 Million (in cap room) would we have let to go after UFA's?The big names at forward being Richards, Semin, and Gagne...

This is all of course predicated on Pegulla owning the team be July 1st...

I guess what I'm getting at is none the 2011 UFA forwards outside of Richards and Semin are that enticing, so why not take a 1 year gamble on Dumont? This year we'd only be paying 500 grand more (if they took Rivet's 3.5 million dollar cap hit) against the cap, and 4 million next year. If he sucks, then we let him walk in July 2012.

Anyways, just a thought...

i hope, should be buy the team, be builds from within. he drafts, and he develops prospects. going on a spending spree isnt going to fix all this teams ails.

We should have kept Dumont in the first place. Letting him go after arbitration was one of Regier's failures in 2006. He was the upside in a deal. with Gilmour, that sent Grosek away to Chicago.

Getting Semin on camping trips makes you happy? Sounds like a movie I heard about.

No thanks. Too much money. If he was a FA after this year, then heck yes. But no way do I want to pay him 4 million next year.

We're trading our garbage for Dumont, somebody Ruff knows how to use. For $4 million, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I thought he got resigned a week or two ago.

Guess he hasn't been, I would love to get Semin on this team. Put him at LW or RW because he's played RW with OV before.
