Title 1:
Slesh's picks for roster adjustment to improve the team
I would make the following moves immediately.

To BUF
Jeff Carter

To PHI
Drew Stafford
1st rd pick 2011
2nd rd pick 2012

Carter has been forced to the wing in Philly and it is showing. He is a natural Center, not so good on the wing.
Philly needs an inexpensive winger. Stafford fits that discription.
5 mil for this season than RFA, resign him for 5 to 5.5 for 3 to 5 seasons.
Connolly's replacement.
Can score goals, works extremely hard, physical and has a decent skill set.
My line for Carter: Ennis (LW) - Carter (C) - Pomminville (RW)
To BUF
Dustin Penner

To EDM
Jhonas Enroth
Mike Weber
1st rd pick 2012

Edmonton will be looking for players like these and a pick.
4.25 mil for 2 seasons (including this one).
Penner is that big body Roy and Vanek need and has a nose for the net.
Weber and Enroth will compete for starting positions, Enroth would especially intrigue Edmonton. Its a good fit as Edmonton looks to continue its rebuild with some youth.
My line for Penner: Vanek (LW) - Roy (C) - Penner (RW)

To BUF
2nd rd pick 2011
3rd rd pick 2012

To CLB
Tim Connolly

Columbus needs help at Center desperately. This would be a very good fit for them.
Buffalo needs to garner back a couple of draft picks. Could end being a 4th rd pick in 2012 if necessary.
This also serves as a 4.5 mil salary dump and Columbus has plenty of cap space to resign Timmy.
Dumping Connolly's salary makes picking up Carter and Penner's combined 9.25 mil only a 4.75 mil increase.

These are the moves I would make immediately. Not wait for the deadline.

I'd be cool with any or all of those trades.

Slesh, I can't tell if you're insane, stupid, or funny. But it's definitely at least one of the three.

How old are you?

Putting aside your deduction of me personally, I'll answer your question.

I am 40 years old. Or will be in a couple of months.

And since you have seen fit to attack my opinion, let me reciprocate your sentiments by pointing out the obvious, your comment in your post was just a wee bit childish. I don't need to know your age, it shows in the post.

Now that you feel like you've "put someone in their place" can we move on to the conversation of throwing ideas out there to "improve a limp dick roster", or is it too much for you to handle?

I like some of the moves... i don't like giving up 1st 2011... 1st 2012 ... 2nd 2010... I think they Sabres historically value the top round picks...

With that said... I have always liked Carter! I think he is the exact type of player that we need... and as you say, as much as i am a timmy homer, it may be time for him to move on... To many small centers... Carter would bring some size....

I cant speak to Penner... I know he is the guy Edm poached from the Ducks... is his money out of wack?

And who or what else can we give up besides Weber... I like Weber... and whats you plan to replace Enroth? Is there anyone else (G) in the system and how far away are they?

AND with all of that said... i think the Sabres need a shake up... i know there are a few new parts... but i still think the size (or lack there of) will catch up to us in the play-offs... and I think it time they fix the Vanek not having a proper winger....

but they wont do anything... they will ride it out... Ruff will get them into the playoffs.... and who knows which officiating crew will show up...

I think we would go over our budget if we did this.

Mmmmm.........I to thought on the draft picks and including them in so many trades.
To be honest gr8daygo, I just don't see any other way to bring in the necessary talent. My overall assesment of the picks themselves my be skewed and a bit off.

I guess I have to look at it objectively to a point, but you have to give to get. My moves were an attempt to put the Sabres in Cup contention no later than next season, draft picks are a longterm deal. Both are risky, drafting and my strategy, from my vantage point, the risk is worth it given Miller's performance last season.

Scratch that, I forgot Stafford is in his contract year. So, the crappy one is the Connolly. Penner is unlikely but meh.

Current cap space availability: $4,897,976

So, Connolly would have to be moved in order to do both Penner and Carter.
If Connolly is not moved, then only Penner at $4.25 mil could fit under the current cap.

Moving Connolly is obviously a critical move to make anything happen at Center.

I think we as Sabres fans tend to forget that other teams don't want our trash for good players..

We'd have to give up more than Staff infection, a 1st and a 2nd for Carter.

I'd take any of those moves. I know the organization loves their draft picks but as mentioned, with the way Miller played last year and is capable of playing, now is the time. I'd hope that one thing learned from the Hasek era is that a goalie can't do it himself.

I like Penner and I like what he brings. The one problem is that I know there are claims (I know I've heard it here, too) that he's got a bad attitude and isn't willing to put in the work since he already has his cup. Who knows if there's truth to it, though.

That is possible, but by no means is Stafford trash to other teams. He fills a need on wing.
But I do agree, it may take more picks. Could be another 2nd rounder. But don't forget, Having Carter off the payroll now allows Philly to prepare for the resigning of Giroux by the end of this season. Its logical that Carter is going to be the odd man out given that they are already right up against the cap ceiling with minimal money (roughly 6 million) coming off the books next season.
And that money comes off without Giroux or Carters contract.

Carter is going to be traded, He's going to command 6 mil next contract if his numbers continue the way they have.
Buffalo would be fools not to grab a 25 year old Center like this.

This next comment is not directed at you shedoesn'tgetit, but to those that think these are garbage for greatness deals.
This is not true at all. Stafford, Buff's 1st rounder this season and 2nd rounder next season is a very decent package. I will, however, concede, some may need to be added. As for Penner, I don't think so, Enroth and Weber fit the mold of what Edmonton is looking for, and a 1st round pick to boot, that deal gets done in my opinion.

You have to give to get, remember this.

If there was any time to mortgage the future.... With Miller, NOW is the time to do it... I would have zero problem with management making a true run at it... show Miller we will do what it takes and give him the pieces he needs to win a cup... if not it will be hasek all over again

Cap space is not relevant. Darcy already said that they have an internal budget, and they went over it with the Morrisonn signing. I doubt that they do anything unless they shed salary.

Okay then. Let's take a look at the Carter deal.

25 year old 40 goal scorer with one of the nastiest, sickest, wickedest shots in hockey. The Flyers draft well, they have en excellent stable of young talent and no need to stock pile high round draft picks. They have their cap under control. Carter will be RFA next season and will likely fit into their cap for the long term.

Stafford, is 24, at his best he can't score more points then Carter can score goals in a season. Based on their history, there is absolutely no way to look at this trade as something that would benefit the Flyers, a team that went to the SCF last season and is trying to do so again this season. In short, this trade proposal is either childish, insane, stupid, or funny.

The Connolly dump is the only deal the other team would even consider making, but that would have only made sense if they signed a top 2 center last summer.
