Squanto, what should we consider reputable sources? I would expect those that recognize the Sabres in existence.

Journalists and reporters that cover the team and the sport are really the only reputable sources to me. It's too easy for some random guy to put a post on his blog or his twitter account, and for that to end up spread around the net within hours, even though there's no truth to it. It happens time and time again.

Is it possible to list those journalists and reporters? That would help some of us narrow our search when we need to post something from them that is reputable.

I'm not the one who decides such things.

just consider the source. Most fan sites and Hockeybuzz have a track record of being wrong, and making stuff up.

One thing Sabre's management might consider about Weiss is that while his cap hit is a nice 3.1, he's at the end of the deal, so the payouts are actually like 4.2.

I would like to see versteeg come here, it sounds like the leafs hate his guts so it might not take a lot to get him. Maybe connolly or grier for him.

Versteeg would be a decent pickup but Burke isn't going to trade him for Connolly or Grier are you kidding!!!! They are rebuilding and don't want other teams trash. The Lopul deal was mainly for Gardiner.

It would take an ill-fated Dominic Moore deal with the Leafs.

Versteeg could easily be had for a 2nd round pick, Burke loves draft picks; he'll trade almost anybody for a solid pick or two.

Burke finds himself a good candidate for various GM positions in the NHL. He can still make moves, but the Leafs still lose. How much time remaining does he have with that club?

EKLUND UPDATE
* Following a hot rumor that the Sabres are interested in Colorado Avalanche player Brandon Yip.

I like Yip and I think he'd be a good fit. Dont know what we would have to give up to get him tho.

Pass on Yip, more of what we already have. Plays on a very talented Colorado team, big size, limited skill, 19 points in 48 games. Not the type of player we need.

Agreed. We need someone with more upside on skill and points per game.

Continuing a discussion fan4life61 and I were having, I would like to inquire who are untouchables and who are likely to be moved as we see fit.

Untouchables are players we need, core players or players with no-trade clauses.
Ennis, Gerbe, Grier, Leopold, Miller, Montador, Morrisonn, Myers, Pominville, Stafford, Vanek, Weber

Players to be moved:
Connolly, Rivet

Note - Any player with a NTC or NMC can waive said clause... :hand:

Gerbe can be moved - I still do not think you can run with Ennis, Roy, Gerbe... you give up to much size, but thats just my thought... I like scrappy do recently... but again he can be moved

Grier can be moved

Monte can be moved - like him and wouldn't move him, but he can be moved, UFA

Morrisonn can be moved - I like him more recently, and like him with weber, but he can be moved

Pommers can be moved and Staff can be moved.... again, not sure if I would or they should move them, but they can be moved...

Bottom line, in any trade, your gonna have to give a little to get a little, if you want a top line C, you may have to give up a pomminville + some more.... Remember we have Adam, Foligno (spelling) ZAK... all coming up at some point...

My issue right now is with how they are playing, other than Rivet, Neids, Timmy... Im not sure who to move... which is why Im glad Im not a GM.... but some tinkering needs to be done...

I do not want to trade away Pominville and Stafford. They are our two best right wingers in years. That position has been thin for awhile, not as long as center.

I would part with Montador if the return includes a point producing playmaking top center. If that cannot be done, we need to resign the guy. I think such an extension is possible before season's end if he does not get traded.

Keeping Rivet and Connolly is automatic fail.

I think one guy you forgot to list is Hecht. Me personally if you can get a taker on him I would move him. Yes he's a decent player and I hate his choice of shot selection but he's overpaid for what he brings to this team.

I know it'll never happen, but what do you think about a trade like roy+prospect+2nd round pick for malkin?

I think that would be a good deal for both teams: penguins get their legitimate second line center for less than half the money they pay malkin, thus reliving them of their cap-headaches. they could use the freed up money to finally get a good winger for crosby.

we, on the other had, would finally have a number 1 center. oh yes, and it would also be fair on the injury-front as both players will be out for the season.

Does the fact that Fisher and Versteeg got moved for 1st round picks + devalue the 1st round pick so much this season that Connolly could possibly bring in a 1st round pick or maybe a 2nd +?

my question is what would you do with the roster? I like the way they are playing but Im not sure if they are built for a deep run... if they make it in... do you shake anything up? do you send any UFA out? ... or do you run 'em the way they are built and see what you got?

I wouldn't mind taking in Weiss.
