Traded to LA by Boston and now on waivers, what do you think about Marco Sturm. I like the idea of him on our third line, and his 3.5M salary is prorated to nothingness with only 1/4 of the season left.

My only problem with him is that he's a winger. We kinda have a lot of those.

Our 3rd and 4th lines are fine. We have plenty of players to play on them. Let us pick up guys that can play the top two lines.

No he's been too banged up and I wouldn't want this guy!

Meh, I would pass. I'm sure he's better than Byron, but I think Regier should show that he understands what the "Aim high" philosophy is.

eehh I kind of like our 3rd and 4th lines... and think we need C help more than winger help... and I'd keep in mind something Mr. P has said in a few interviews... We are looking for long term answers... Not rentals. If moves are made they will be for the long term...

Do you see Sturm as a long term 3rd line LW? He is 32... 33 at the start of next season...with 9 points on the year... If he could be a solid 3/4 LW for 2 seasons maybe, but I don't know enough about him to know that...

I'd take him for the rest of the year. Can't hurt can it? UFA at seasons end so he's a rental that we wouldn't have to give up a pick to get.

HockeyDB says he plays center. And we could use a center.

Not to mention, he's a UFA at the end of the season, so if he doesn't work out... peace.

Kind of seems like a no brainer to me if he's a center. I remember him being really scrappy.

Does he answer the need of a long term player? No.

Could we use him as a last resort? That is a mystery.

If he can pull C duty, than no doubt get his ass in today...

and lets face it, hes an upgrade over some of our other forwards... neids.. grier..

the sabres have a team with holes that still can win. plugging one of those holes, for free, is a no brainer to me. but im not darcy, and i wont tell him to do his job.

Say we pick Sturm up. What line combinations would he work well with based on skill so far?

he's gotta be a better option than at least one of those guys... i didn't think about Grier, and didn't think he played C.....but if he can pull time at C... and has more in the tank than Neids and/or Grier AND he knows one of the top teams in the division very well.... tell me he wouldn't be just a little more motivated against boston.... and might know some weaknesses to exploit...

If no one else grabs him, I'm pretty confident we'll see Sturm in a Sabres jersey tomorrow night. This sounds like a Darcy kind of move.

The information he could give us about Boston alone would be worth it.

when do you usually know if a guy is claimed or who puts in for him?

If Buffalo doesn't claim him, I'll save my being bummed until the trade deadline.

The only reason I can think of for Darcy not to pick him up is that he's working on a trade to bring a center in.

If that doesn't happen, then I'll be bummed.

Waiver periods start and end at noon.

so it will be noon tomm to see if any teams put a claim in on him... and how does that order work... by league standing or some other method?
