He had an awesome Rookie year with 33 goals, 50 points and a +14 in 74 games on a shitty Islanders team (still 2 games left to play) .
He is the leading Rookie goal scorer and is 2nd in the league in shorthanded goals.

I'm not saying we should throw an offer sheet at him but I'm wondering how much it'd take to sign him.
So, this thread is basically a question towards the money experts.
How much will Grabner make next season and at what point won't the Islanders match an offer sheet?

That seems a bit much.

The Islanders have a ton of RFAs this summer and they need enough room to sign Tavares next year. I thought 2-2.5mil might do the trick (Stafford money).

Tavares won't get anything Over three million. He hasn't proved shit yet. Grabber will also not get anything over 2 million most likely. Plus the islanders have plenty of cap space and will be able to retain all their players easily. You won't see any long deals for Tavares or grabner yet. One year doesn't prove you can play in the NHL. Three great or good years is about what it takes.

So... Grabner, a 30 goal scorer, is only going to get 2 million? Seriously?

We should throw an offer sheet at Grabner. Who knows what would happen, especially with those goofy fucks on Long Island. They might let him walk if we go 3-3.5 million.

And Grabner's worth it, trust me. I watched him with the Moose for 3 years. He's a gamer...

They have 18 mil in cap space, plenty to re-sign the players they want back. It's not too hard to estimate what Grabner will get, just compare his production to Moulson's. Moulson is (was?) their top winger and just got signed to a 3 yr 9.3 mil contract...3.133 per season. Grabner's production has been a little better, but just one season won't get him much more than what Moulson got. I'd estimate that NYI will offer somewhere between 3.0 and 3.5 mil per season, probably in the 2-3 year range...whatever brings him one year shy of UFA status so that he can be resigned one more time as an RFA.

I doubt another teams bothers with an offer sheet, with as much cap room that NYI has. It would take at least 4.5 mil per to get him, and that also means giving up a 2012 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rd pick. That's too steep for almost any team unless they have an idiot jackass like Kevin Lowe in charge.

Actually, I think with that price tag the cost would be 3 1st round picks in 3 consecutive years.

So one year and 30 goals is making sure he gets 3 million now?

Even if the team or him elects for arbitration, he has no leverage, he has ONE FULL season in the NHL. If he gets 3 million from one year that could be a fluke.

He could get 3 million, but anything more would be ludicrous. He has 39 goals and 63 points in 96 career NHL games. Good enough goal scoring, but he still hasn't proved anything in the NHL yet. Tavares started to prove something more than him in his performance.

Hey man you don't that no more considering we have new ownership that said we will be spending to the cap every year. So that alone says we will be targetting someone good this offseason...

And in all honesty I'd try to get Grabner out of NYI before they resign him. Maybe RFA for RFA (Stafford for Grabner). Stafford just had a really lucky season and with him looking for a big raise I see no reason in keeping him. We could just throw in a prospect or late pick to sweeten the pot for old Mr. Snow... Stafford has no consistency in his game. He shows up once every 7-8 games... This trade would get us a much needed RW who can score on a nightly basis. Grabner can also dish the puck unlike Stafford.

Darcy if you are reading this under no circumstances bring Stafford back. The guys WAAAAAY to inconsistent. If you want to lock up a scoring threat every night, look no further than Michael Grabner. It would be your smartest move since you acquired Daniel Briere from PHX... Grabner IMO will have a similar impact except with MORE GOALS!!!!

On the old boards Jammerz was the "Playstation trade of the day" poster. Just take his ideas with a grain of salt.

Your the one with f'd up trade scenario's... You just like starting shit man. Just like that with you on the old boards... Tell me one good reason why you'd prefer Stafford over Grabner? Because Stafford shows up once every 10 games?

And I never said they will or they could jackass all I said is they SHOULD... I'm not sure if you were schooled correctly when growing up so here's the definition of SHOULD...

Used to indicate obligation, duty, or correctness, typically when criticizing someone's actions: "he should have been careful".

As in Darcy SHOULD be careful on what he gives Stafford for a contract extension...

As in Darcy SHOULD consider trading this guy since he has peaked in his NHL careeer...
