What would it take to get him in a Sabres uniform? And would you want him in a Sabres uniform? He can play both offense and defense. Much more defense in that respect. He is UFA at the end of the year and I doubt Nashville will be able to resign him. They've got a bunch of young solid d-men in there system so they do not have to resign the guy and it looks like Nashville needs offense...

Way too much.

I honestly would wait until the off season when he becomes a UFA.

As I mentioned a couple times before. This is the player we need to get here in order to be successful (but not at any cost).

Suter makes 3.5M Find a guy on our roster that makes that, add in a 1st or 2nd round pick, or good prospect, and thats the price...could be the potential package, a lot to ask for a guy who we can have in 8 months for just cash.

He'll go for over 5 mil in the summer. I doubt we'll have the room for any player in that range. Boyes' 4 mil will cover Myers' new contract, and Hecht's 3.5 mil will cover new deals for a replacement forward for Boyes (Kassian?), Ennis, Kaleta, and Gragnani (if they all stay). The only way to get a Suter type on the BL will be to drop Gragnani (which I'm all for) and hope the cap limit increases enough. I'd also like to trade Sekera in order to make room for McNabb, but the prime time to trade Sekera was this past summer when he was still cheap, not after giving him an inexplicable 2.75 mil cap hit for four farking years.

Not big on unrestricted player pickups during the offseason. Most are paid way too much money and you never really get great value for them.

That's really not much at all for a puck moving defensemen.

And even in this cap world of Hockey, that's still pretty cheap.

Honestly I think it would take a first/sound rounder a good prospect like Kassian and a maybe a guy like Ennis.

I just think going after him in the summer would be a lot wiser and they get to keep the good guys coming up.

Pending UFAs never bring market value return in a trade. The only way there could be a fair trade is if Suter agrees to a long-term deal to avoid UFA status. It wouldn't be worth it for either team unless that happens. In any event, it's not going to happen anyway. I also seriously doubt how much Buffalo can/will do in free agency next summer, with only around 2-6 mil to work with, depending on the raise of the cap limit. Darcy would have to trade high cap hit players, and we all know THAT won't happen.
