Wings, Sabres vie to extend win streaks

"Sabres: Despite numerous roster changes over the years, Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff always finds a way to keep his team competitive until the very end. This season is no different. Although they haven't scored more than two goals in a game yet, the Sabres are off to a 2-0-1 start. Ryan Miller made 25 saves on Saturday night in a 1-0 win at Nashville.

"My job on the road is to not get too high and to keep it tight," Miller said. "Nashville has some breakaways late in the third when the ice was getting chippy. I was happy to be there when I was needed."

Who's Hot: Not known for his offense, veteran forward Kirk Maltby is averaging a point per game thus far with a shorthanded goal and two assists in three contests. Maltby had 11 points in 78 games last season.

Miller is the Sabres' MVP thus far. Buffalo has scored four goals in three games, yet Miller is 2-0-1 with a 0.98 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage.

Injury Report: Red Wings forward Johan Franzen is out due to a torn ACL and is not expected back until after the Olympic break. Up-and-coming center Darren Helm is day-to-day with a lower-body injury but could make his season debut on Tuesday. Defenseman Andreas Lilja remains out with post-concussion syndrome."

No prediction but if the Sabres play a competitive game it could bolster my outlook for this season a bit.

No prediction from myself either, but if they do the unlikely, it will be a huge step in the right direction.

I see the shutout streak keep going, it will be 4-0 Buffalo and maybe Roy/Vanek decides to show up.

I really do think they have an excellent chance tomorrow night. The defense just improved, the bottom two lines are clicking so much more with the recent roster juggle, and the top two lines are ready to break out. Plus, Miller looks to be in great shape. They'll need to be in top fighting form for this game.

Indeed...we need to pound them early and then skate the old farts into the ground. I'd like to see Gaustad drop the gloves...maybe Rivet or Montador, too.

I didn't exactly intend it like that, but I do firmly believe they'll need to start pounding bodies early. With only an aging Brad May to play defender to their stars, the Sabres have the edge when it comes to physicality and even speed (with the exception of Datsyuk). If Kaleta can lay a big killdozering on one of their stars, it'll drive the Red Wings nuts. We all saw what the Ducks did to them last playoffs.

I hope the Sabres show up for it...they have a history of laying eggs against the Red Wings.

We know Miller will play his "A" game against them, let's just hope the rest of the team comes to play unlike the last few times we've met the Wings (other than the preseason, but even that win was purely because of Miller).

We truly are not worthy of Miller!

Same here Phil, I don't have to work so I get to post up some posts.

I can't wait to actually watch this game, hoping for a Sabres win of course.

Lets go Buffalo.

With both of us online for this GDT, it's gonna be a big-un. I'm disappointed that our biggest GDT showing was during the PRE-SEASON! C'mon, people!

I've yet to be in a regular season GDT, only preseason, and I got over 60 or so posts in it.
