Coming off their first shutout victory of the season yesterday, the Sabres get right back at it with the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight.

Buffalo is 6 points behind the 8th place Rangers, who have a game in hand on the Sabres.

The Sabres are 8 points ahead of the 30th place Florida Panthers. They basically need to hope for a lottery pick at this point.

No word yet on who the starter is. I'm sure there's no morning skate, either, with it being an early game.

I'm really hoping they go back to Enroth after yesterday although won't be surprised to see Miller in the net.

In related discussion; what is up with Vanek? During the game yesterday it seemed unless the play was transitioning into Flyers end, he just seemed to drag his feet. I can recall at least 3 plays where he didn't even bother to stick check the opposition. I know he's pretty banged up but is this him playing hurt or has he completely checked out on the season?

I'm a big fan of his so it's not like I'm one of those who bag on him regularly, but holy crap you can see a difference these last few games.

He's been dealing with that rib issue, I think, so I bet poke checking isn't something he's all that keen about. Plus, since the Sabres only have one more AHL call-up, they're probably just telling Vanek to tough it out.

Rib injuries really, really suck. I don't care how tough you are. They just plain hurt.

The best part about rib injuries is the treatment.

Nothing you can do except wrap them.

As I said in the GDT, the call on Rivet was horseshit. The Bruins player was holding onto Rivet's stick like it was the last fucking raft on the Titanic.
