Gordie Howe is the greatest: Bobby Orr

"SYDNEY [NS] — There’s been plenty of argument over who is the greatest hockey player to strap on the blades and Bobby Orr is almost always in the forefront of that discussion.

But Orr himself doesn’t believe he’s at the top of the list.

“First of all, the greatest is Gordie (Howe) — he’s my man,” said the hall of fame defenceman, in town for the Chevrolet Safe and Fun Hockey Festival this weekend. “Gordie, without question. Longevity, any way you want to play, he was a special man. He played during a tough period, a very tough period.

“Any time you’re mentioned with Gordie or Wayne (Gretzky), it’s flattering. It’s really nice. I don’t spend much time thinking about being one of the greatest or anything like that. I played a game I loved to play, had a passion to play it and the game was very good to me."

...this kinda shit makes me grin, ear-to-ear. Chicken soup for the Hockey-soul.

Youtube?
NHL Network? (they run "classic games" every now and then that go back to the 50's)

if your referring to watching them live...an old timers game?

Picking the greatest is hard to do is most sports considering all the different eras in the games.

just watching him play a game. not highlights. just a game. seeing how he dictated the play.

From an absolute class act like one Robert Gordon Orr I would expect nothing else from his mouth.

I myself think Bobby was the greatest.

Trust me, watching Ken Dryden play was nothing too exciting.

Doesn't Gretzky even say Lemeuix and Howe and such were better players than him also?

Everyone does it, but it's great he isn't cocky about it, because he sure was one of the greatest to ever play.

Imagine, Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux, Howe and Coffey all on the same team when they scored their highest point totals They would have been unstoppable.

Who knows who the best is? You can list the 10 greatest but I don't think there is really a player that stands out amongst that group.

depends, i love watching a cool, calm, collected goalie who uses technique over reflexes any day. except osgood. because he sucks.

Dryden was more of a positional keeper; though his reflexes were good.

As for spectacular looking goalkeepers, I'd go more with Tony Esposito, Rogie Vachon, and especially Bernie Parent.

drydens hand was so bad at the end of his career, he stopped using his catcher. he kept it to his side and used his stick for his glove side.

i like rogie vachon. of course i never saw him play.
