Montreal Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov will be out 3-4 months with a torn tendon that he suffered on opening night. He isn't expected to return until after the Vancouver Olympics in February.

The veteran defenceman suffered the injury during a collision with goalie Carey Price in the third period of Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Markov had a surgery on Thursday night following the game in Toronto to repair the laceration to his ankle.

The Canadiens expect defenceman Roman Hamrlik (flu) to return to their line-up for Saturday's game in Buffalo. It's expected Yannick Weber will also be recalled from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL.

Montreal is 7-20 with Markov out of the line-up.

The 30-year old veteran is one of Montreal's top defencemen and normally spends time on the power play. Last season he had 12 goals and 52 assists, and played in his second consecutive all-star game.

Oh and can a mod fix the typo in the title and change it from "injurs" to "injures"? Pleaseee? It's bothering me.

He is a minute munching player who anchors their defense; wow that is a loss. Freak accident, it happens.

ferret's favorite donut munching defenseman will get plenty of time now. I expect Hamrlik's minutes to go up, and his play will step up as well.

And I miss that commercial. It's totally in my favorites on YouTube, though.

Fudge buckets.

Buffalo better fucking well make the playoffs now, because my #2 team just lost a lot of their chances of "contending", or maybe even being in the playoff picture.

Carey better pull out some Roy/Hasek type magic to atone, and give the Habs any chance.

Poor Andrei. He's going to have a lot of free time. I wonder what he'll do?

The drums was the best one. Although the Habs' insignia on the snowboard was a beautiful touch.
