I understand how much it disrupts the season but it'll be bullshit (but typical Bettman) to refuse to let a player play for their country

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.

I believe him. And I sort of feel like he has a point.

While you should honor your contracts, the NHL shouldn't prevent players from representing their countries.

The NHL has the arrogance of the NFL without the popularity.

There will be an agreement by then.

Hopefully by that time Bettmen will be gone.

I don't know Ovie, sitting out a whole season just to play in a 2 week tournament?

Pandora's Box has been opened: Now that the NHL has committed to the Olympics, for so many years, it would be mean-spirited and counterproductive to forcibly withdraw from them.

Players should not be compelled to have to choose between their livelihood and their culture or nationality.

Withdrawing from such a globally-recognised "goodwill" venture would bring down a shit-storm of criticism and negative press.

Bettman's heavy-handedness strikes again. Why can't he just leave well-enough alone?

This isn't about Bettman and it won't be the NHL's call.

It will come down to the NHLPA and if they push this issue during the next round of CBA talks.

And if the NHL doesn't participate in the 2014 Olympics, it will be between Ovie and the Capitals.

I can't imagine Leonsis being too happy if Ovie gets hurt playing for Russia. The hit at the gate for the Caps if that happens will be huge.
