to the barclays center in brooklyn. terrible move. the capacity will be 14,500 or less due to the hockey layout at the arena being offset. its the same setup that makes seattles key arena not NHL usable.

Does the NHL have to approve this? I'd be pretty sure they'd put a stop to this due to low amount of seats. Unless the Barclays Center can somehow renovate to increase seating, I can't imagine this being the Isles' saving grace.

Read somewhere that the Rags would need to approve of the relocation since it cuts into their territory, but they haven't piped up yet so it's expected to be a non issue.

As for the rink, didn't the 'Yotes have a similar setup with terrible sightlines at America West?

yep, america west had that issue too. it was a HUGE problem. america west was 4 years old when the yotes moved there. the building was not old.

Agreed, definitely some disadvantages here, but on a lot of different levels the Isles had a ton of good reasons to get out of Nassau.

the games will be eaiser to sell out, based on the fact that it is easier to GET to the barclays center, and is right on the subway line, as compared to Nassau. and, a selout might be only 14.5k, but that is still more than their attendance over the past couple years

Let's be honest, folks. Ever watch a game at MSG? They're like 30% empty anyways.

the number its self, while low, compares little to how absolutely stupid the layout is for a NHL team. AHL? sure? lower leagues? thats fine. its fuckin stupid, and the islanders are stupid to handcuff themselves like this.

Will they still be called the Islanders? I mean, technically Brooklyn is still an island, I guess...

Hilariously enough, the existing NYI logo does not include Brooklyn and Queens.

very true. looks like they only included the part of long island that was outside NYC.

my honest guess theyll have to update the logo.

or bring back the fisherman logo.

You know, I never realized Long Island was on their logo.

Sees how much I pay attention.

the dude that brought the isles to barclays has now won the rights to the NVMC redevelopment.

uh..... something seems off about that.
