Basically correct. Except you have 9 teams making it. :)

In short, the wild card teams are the bitch when it comes to filling the divisional round of the playoffs. If the divisions were balanced, I would have preferred a one WC from each division rule, but they pretty much have to do it this way because of the imbalance.

I agree with Diehard. Other than Chicago I don't care about seeing the west until Stanley time. The east gets a double screw. Not only is one more team added but Detroit is now in the mix. The teams in the east will have a tougher time making the playoffs. Each team in the west has a 57% chance for the playoffs while the east is at 50%. They should have left Detroit in the west. There is something about the west teams, other than Detroit and Chicago, that makes me turn the channel.

detroit will probably remain out west, because im pretty confident the coyotes will become the nordiques pretty soon.

I hope you're right on both points!

Maybe I missed something, but Detroit is still coming to our division, right?

yes, but IF (and i cant stress if enough) but IF the coyotes leave arizona and move to quebec, realignment will have to be altered. in that case, i would imagine detroit moves back west, as its been said the only way columbus can survive is to move east. and IF the yotes leave, its believed itll be to quebec, since they are already building a new arena, and colisee pepsi can temporarily host an NHL team.
