I haven’t googled it either, but there’s no way it comes down to suspension/folding. That would require the NHLPA and the League to agree on a way to distribute the PHX players/assets. Hell, they couldn’t even agree to move Winnipeg westward this year. Aside from that, people in Quebec City would riot if the NHL disbanded PHX instead of moving them to Quebec City. That is what I really want. Not the rioting, of course, but a PHX to move to Quebec City. A Quebec City team could only be in our division, so that should definitely bump Detroit back west.

I just don’t get the feeling that this is going to happen any time soon (if at all), but I sure hope I’m wrong about that. I have some ties to PHX, and the economy and real estate prices there really went to shit in 2008 – as in houses losing half their value. Naturally, this meant people weren’t spending as much money on the Coyotes, and the City of Glendale wasn’t generating nearly as much tax revenue to help support them back then. Things in PHX have gotten markedly better since then.

bettman just talked about this:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=6737 ... l:topheads

"Obviously we're getting to the point where some decisions are going to have to be made both by the City of Glendale and by us," Commissioner Bettman said. "I haven't set a deadline, but time is getting shorter."

"A delay could be a no-decision," Daly said. "A no-decision could be a decision in this case. They understand. There is no misunderstanding with respect to what our timetable is vis-a-vis the City of Glendale. They know what our decision timeline is and what other decisions we have to make. There is no misunderstanding."

Commissioner Bettman said there are several markets interested in the Coyotes should the ownership situation not be resolved. He would not name cities, however.

"The phone keeps ringing more regularly the longer that the Coyotes situation stays unresolved," Commissioner Bettman said.

maybe not, mike. because THIS happened.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nhl/ne ... s-sale.ap/
so, they have the framework of a lease agreement in place. however, seattle is now breathing down their neck.

http://www.sportingnews.com/nhl/story/2 ... ty-council

so, i guess the word is key arena will have to work temporarily.

but that aside, if glendale and the yotes have the framework of a lease agreement in place, why is this report leaking?

also, heres a list of upgrades planned for key arena if a team does go to seattle.

http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlesports ... rena-plan/

the new arena will not begin construction unless there is a team in place to call it home. so in the meantime, key arena is indeed in the spot light.

and heres an older article about that.

A Seattle team would be great. Especially since the U.S needs to get bigger on hockey, changing it from a place with no fans to a place with many fans would help that.

Not that we know that a Seattle team would have a lot of NHL fans... At the same time, Seattle lacks a secondary sports market outside of American football. They have the Seattle Sounders, but soccer pales in comparison of popularity to what the NHL or the NBA would bring.

They'd have more fans than Phoenix most likely.

I'm pretty sure any location north of Phoenix (Glendale) would have more fans than that area.

Seattle or Portland is what everyone wants basically. Make it happen, keep Phoenix and add two teams to the west like they will eventually do.

Why keep Phoenix if there is no chance they will ever make any money?

Because they are beating around the bush here. IF you're not gonna fold the team or move them in the 4 years you've owned them, they never will.

I'm pretty sure it's getting pretty close to that. Phoenix is a team that operates in the black, and the only way they can sell tickets is by selling seriously discounted tickets. It's not working and eventually they will leave. It happened in Atlanta.

The league never owned Atlanta, and no one even figured Atlanta would get moved first, before Phoenix.

At least in Phoenix they have a group that is fighting to keep the team there.
