Evidently part of the reason for this disagreement is the fact that you guys are counting Knapp and Leiuwen. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think they're worth shit.

Let's say Miller lasts all year with us. Then next year it's Enroth and Hackett in the NHL, with very little experience between them. What happens if one of them gets hurt? Then it's either Makarov or the two guys above. Can you really say that any one of those 3 will be ready for the NHL in a year, and keep a straight face? As for Ullmark, is he contractually bound to his SEL team, or does he even want to come over to play in the AHL?

Guys, this is not depth. This a train-wreck getting ready to happen. I wish we had traded our first pick for Schneider instead of NJ. I tell myself that maybe Darcy is doing this on purpose to ensure that we have some bad years (and high draft picks). Since we didn't get Schneider, we should have drafted Fucale at 35. The fact that we have a bright future on D and Forward is all the more reason why we should've drafted him. And no, drafting him would not have helped with our current situation at all. Drafting him would have helped us to make sure we are not in this same mess 5 years or so from now, when Fucale is ready for the NHL.

We have 8 fucking goalies in the system and it isn't depth? That's plenty of depth. Most teams barely have 4-5 goalies in their systems. Get a grip. If Fucale was so good, some team would have taken him in the 1st round. Why wait a round for the "best goalie in the class?" Give it a rest. Fucale wasn't going to save this franchise overnight.

Fucale wasn't going to save the franchise overnight? Did you even read my post? Here are my last 2 sentences again for you:

We have depth because we have 8 goalies? By that logic, if the Sabres signed me (48 year old non-goalie) to play goal, then we'd have 9 goalies, and be even deeper, right? Also, why would Darcy draft a goalie this draft if we're so stacked? Depth is not a number. Depth is quality, and we don't have it.

In your opinion, we do not. You're right, I totally missed that, but who's to say Fucale doesn't just flame out? It's a crap shoot. If the Sabres and 20-some other teams didn't feel comfortable taking him higher, then I don't know, I'm not going to work myself up over it. From what I hear, this Peterson kid could be pretty good. We've seen Makarov dominate in the WHL and the WJC. Leiuwen was damn good in the WHL. Ullmark is still overseas, but will come over when he's done, I'd assume. I really don't think the goalie situation is as dire as you make it out to be.

Fucale is not the end-all be-all for me. He was simply the best goalie in the draft, and he fell in our lap and yet we didn't take him. Regardless of how we do it, we need to shore up in net. Like I said, I wish we would have gotten Schneider instead of NJ.

The Sabres have been strong in net every year since literally the last century. I think we have all gotten to the point where we just take it for granted that any problems we have will not be in net. Obviously, we are fine as long as we have Miller, but not when he's gone, and that will be soon.

We had more pressing needs then to draft the best goalie in the draft at that spot. If we get the best goalie in the draft, and our defense still sucks balls, we have a bad team still.

Having a great goalie isn't as important as it once was. Teams have won the Cup lately with goalies good enough to win games.

I'd rather have a team to the likes of the Blackhawks with 3 lines any team would be jealous of then have one super great line of forwards and D and a great goalie, but that's it.

The Sabres felt good enough with our goalie situation to not draft Fucale. Unless he comes in and plays like Hasek in the NHL then I would agree with you. We will get a good feel for how Hackett and Makarov will be next year.

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.
