3 games in and a coach is already fired. That has to be some kind of record.

aye, twitter says it is a record...previously held by Savard, Hlinka and Demers at 4 games.

Also, had they done this slightly sooner they could have picked from names like Torterella and Ruff...

I am a little surprised they canned him three games in. I guess they're second guessing themselves for not firing him at then end of last season.

I'm assuming they'll promote from within. Who is their AHL affiliate coach?

So, what do you guys think of Lavoilette? Would he fit if Rolston isn't the right guy for the rebuild? I like Rolston but the fact that he thought they played well 5 on 5 in the first game, made me crinch.

Because they did play well 5-on-5 in the first game.

Detroit had better possession, but the chances were there all night long.

Buffalo was out-shot 34-13 5-on-5 (total shots, not shots on goal) in the first game. They were fucking hideous 5-on-5.

Shots do not determine play.

I was watching that game, the team was in decent position for that game.

But back to Lavvy. Guy has a bad team anyways, their front office is horriblw and should be fired, he probably should have been given the rest of the season or at least until November or December.

Since when do shots not determine play? The teams that take more shots than other teams are usually the ones that possess the puck more than the other team, and those teams are almost always at the top of the standings, and are always in the playoffs. Those are the teams winning Cups. Yeah, there are outliers (Chicago losing to Tampa yesterday after nearly out-shooting the Lightning by almost triple), but more often than not, those are your teams winning championships.

Quality of shots is more important than quantity of shots.

I only watched the first 2 periods and the 5 on 5 was horrible. They couldn't get the puck out of the zone, their overall passing was awful, they had no forecheck and were outskated and outplayed. Overall shots do mean something, Detroids shots weren't exclusively non-quality shots, they were lucky to be only down by 2 and the Sabres shots in the first 2 periods weren't that good.

Here's the thing: Chances are, if your quantity of shots isn't keeping pace with the other team, you're probably not getting very many quality shots, either.
